which track or speedway to go?
Hi everyone.
I never been to track or speedway or Drag strip before but, I wanna take my Z to the track to know my Z better and for my driving skills.
as you all know I'm in So Cal.
can anyone suggest any track that is decent, inexpensive, and close to home. I live near Glendale.
ohh another thing, is there any requirment things such as helmet to get in?

You should've posted this in Souther Cal or posted with a clearer subject line in the motorsports section. I think you would be getting more responses.
Anyway, I think Buttonwillow is a great first time track. It's a little further north though. I go up the night before. Only one wall to becareful of and it's out of the way so you'ld really have to try to hit it i think
Whatever place you go, find out if they have an HPDE day and you'll find yourself in good company (lots of instructors) with a lot of other like minded folks (out there to just try it out).
Each event will have their own requirements. At buttonwillow you can rent helmets, but do you really want to wear a used helmet? You usually need long cotton pants and long sleeved cotton shirt at least.

Check out SpeedVentures.com. They have all of the rules and requirements for you and they do mainly SoCal events.
I wouldn't recomend Big Willow for a first time because, although not very hard to drive, it has the potential for very high speeds. I would suggest Buttonwillow and there is acutally a SpeedVentures event there on September 29th - October 1st. Its a drive, but worth it. Other than that, I would suggest the Cal Speedway infield for a first time. Thats a lot closer to home in Fontana.

wow I never knew there were so many people that live in the glendale area on this site. I live in La Crescenta and all I see is bone stock Z's, very rarely a modded one, and never seen any of you guys (judging by your sig.) But ya, willow springs is probably your best bet or lacr.

But be sure to visit Laguna Seca (not exactly "So Cal", but also worth the drive).

california speedway is usually expensive. speedtrial usa has a weekend of racing for $200. You can't beat that price. They regular streets of of willow and will do buttonwillow from time to time. Also be sure you get a SNELL SA, not SNELL M helmet, anything 2000 or above. If you want to stay in the sport, get a SNELL SA 2005 helmet.
Let me know if you ever want to go to the track. I always go with a group of people and split hotel costs. Speedtrial offers a novice group and they take you on track and show you the lines as well as in class discussion.
