I know races aren't won on paper, but on paper, it seems like my Z would keep up with her. Granted she has more horses (333) but it takes a while to get there (7900 RPMs). My Z has more torque (274 vs. 262) and weighs about 200 lbs. less (offset by about 50 lbs. because I weigh 175 and she weighs probably about 120).

So I ask again, if we went to a half mile track, why couldn't my Z keep up with her M3?
Because the M3 is faster

Ask her for a test drive, and vice versa? Then you get her scent in your drivers seat and you get a taste of an m3. ahahahaha win win.

No shame on being slower than a 100% more expensive car.

There is this M3 convertible driven by this cocky Asian punk ***. He would always mess with me whenever he sees me. So one night i saw him right next to me at the light. I had a feeling that he was going to gun it, so i was prepared and had my VDC turned off. So we both made a left and bam, we both hit it. And need i remind you that he had a 6spd with exhaust mod. we pretty much stayed even, and wasn't gaining or loosing. I was right there next to him during the run. I only had intake, exhaust, and test pipe. I'm sure i can pull him now since i had Kinetix plenum installed and tuned at 245 to the wheels and 235 trq.

On average? Are we talking about the e46 here? In that case, 350z's run 13.6's "on average".

i test drove a stock m3 from the local bmw dealer. i told the salesman, as i was driving, my z feels faster. he got this scared look on his face and said well bmws get alot faster after 10000 miles. might be true but it was hilarious to hear that guy making excuses. Yes the m3 has a nicer interior, yes its a "BMW" but i love my z so much more, o yeah i saved 30 grand!!!

Don't try to defend your Z's for being lesser cars. I know I think my Z has over M3's. Better looks, better price tag. But the M3 is a car that has been engineered more carefully and frankly, they just had more money to work with when designing it. 8000 redline where the HP hits hardest is probably the biggest advantage that it has over us. They basically have an entire range of RPM they can utilize while we have to switch through those gears. I'm not exactly sure what the gear/rpm/speed numbers for the M3 are, but I have a feeling they are better than us. The car also has less displacement and much more efficient HP numbers. The engine alone justifies the price difference. I honestly would trade my Z for an M3 in a heartbeat. But our Z's are sweet cars for what they are. There will always be someone faster than you out there. I commend your secretary for driving a stick M3. I'd tap that. =)

I've pulled on 350Zs pretty convincingly once I'm up above 6k (totally different car up there). I've test driven and thoroughly thrashed a 6MT 350Z -- there is no doubt that the E46 M is a faster machine.

Scratching my head over the guy who said his Z "felt faster"

m3 is one of the best FRs
runs excellent, not only for speed, but also has good handling
turbo your Z to beat that thing,
there's no turbo kit for E46 m3 yet, only superchargers

I always enjoying reading the “one day” stories. You know, “one day I was at the light…blah..blahh….

Gavatron-You will not beat an M3 in a straight line with a stock Z. However, take some turns and things get interesting. The only time a stock Z will be possibly faster than an M3 is when the 2007 Z model comes out. However that will only last for about 6-8 months before the M3 is replaced with the v8 400hp version.

I’ve owned M3, 911 and now an 06 Z. In that order. The Z is a great car, that I love, great value for what you get. But its no M3 and no 911.

I would suggest you show her that Japanese video verses trying to prove it. At least her M3 is stick and she might screw up but if she dosn’t and you get beat by a skirt driving stick…yikes... h

Thanks for all the replies, folks. Even though the M3 should beat the Z stock for stock, I still can't shake the feeling that I could keep up with her. Hey, maybe I'm just delusional...

As for all those who posted that they'd still "hit it" even though she's married, just like someone else posted, I hope you all "own your stuff" and remember that you posted that when some guy tries to make a move on your wife (and don't worry, I'm guessing that 75% of you are just joking but this is a "just in case"). If any of you are fortunate enough to marry an attractive woman, who would you rather have around her, a guy like me with some sense of decency or guys like yourselves (again, this goes out to the 25% of you who aren't joking).
