Ive seen this vid and if you really pay attention you hear the M3 driver say into the mic "Im just gonna hang back here and watch the race for a while..."

And if you notice near the end the M3 went from LAST to SECOND with no problems. I think the M3, stock for stock, with equal drivers would win. Our Z will run with an M3 but beat one...I dunno.

I know races aren't won on paper, but on paper, it seems like my Z would keep up with her. Granted she has more horses (333) but it takes a while to get there (7900 RPMs). My Z has more torque (274 vs. 262) and weighs about 200 lbs. less (offset by about 50 lbs. because I weigh 175 and she weighs probably about 120).

So I ask again, if we went to a half mile track, why couldn't my Z keep up with her M3?

straight line racing is SO LAME. HAY GUYS I CAN SMASH MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND GO STRAIGHT!!11one

GO ON A FREAKING TRACK AND USE THE CARS CORNERING ABILITY, BRAKING ABILITY, ACCELRETATION, DRIVER SKILL, AND OTHER THINGS THAT YOU DONT GET TO USE IN A STRAIGHT LINE RACE.

I've seen that video. Camera car? WTF? All the Skyline did was block off the M3. Worthless race results IMO.

the GT-R blocks the M3 the entire race. It definitely wasn't fair for the M3 and gives no answer to the question asked. We are also not looking at track numbers, but 1/4 mile numbers.

^^ we used this as a launch campaign in New Zealand...
worked well but after watching it about a million times its pretty clear the M3 is holding back and the Skyline is some what "blockin"..

If the M3 "had it", it would have been able to pass, but it never did. The M3 and Z have always posted nearly identical lap times. Between the two, it's splitting hairs on a track...
I almost bought an M3. I saved the $20k, got the same performance (and who knows, maybe my '07 is even better on the track than the last gen E46)...

+1. That vid is pathetic. It was clearly just a promotional vid or race for the Z.

You will start getting pulled before the 1/4 mile is over, so by 1/2 mile your toast...BTW I didnt read any of this thread-just incase somebody mentioned that. My car NA with bolt-ons would demolish M3's from a roll....

With all the F/I kits coming out for the Z, i dont even see why m3's are a concern. They really arent in the same class. Lets just leave the supercharged m3's alone, sure they are quick. They are very quick cars, they'll just never be fast though. Z are already making 700-800whp, m3 what? For those already turboed, you know where the m3 stands. Almost to the point where its not worth our gas..haha..

WOW! I don't even know where to begin with all this nonsense.

Let me say that I owned a Z and now currently own an M. I bought my Z brand new in 04 and sold in Feburary of 07 after buying the M in November of 06. I will say that I LOVED my Z!! It was a great car. I put a set of Piaa Super Rozza's on it, full Stillen exhaust and headers, and Injen CAI....and the car ran great! But the M is at a WHOLE 'nother level...in all aspects!! Performance, handling, refinement, looks, interior, build quality, etc. The only thing I liked more about my Z was the gearbox. The shifter in the Z is far superior. Now, to say the car is 'cute' and your wifey should be driving it is laughable...seriously. I've seen MANY Z's driven by women but couldn't tell you I've seen an M3 driven buy a woman more than twice. It's a different feeling when people stare and/or nod when I'm driving the M because they know what a serious car it is...compared to the same thing when I had my Z...where it was more of a flashy, eye catching car that 'looked good'. The M3 is an ICONIC car that is loved all across the world. When the Competition Package model came out in 05 (this is what I have), Automobile magazine tested it and said "...this is quite possibly the best overall driving experience in the world, at any price..." That's seriously high praise considering all of the great cars that available. I've lined up next to a few Z's and have SMOKED them all. From a stop...a dig...and from 80 mph or so and none of them were even close!

As far as Z's putting out 700 - 800 horses...that's incredible...no doubt! But come on man...don't act like there aren't M's doing the same thing. I just recently saw a video of one putting out over 900 hp to the wheels!

Again, the Z is a great car...especially for the price and I understand the price difference. But the M3 is just an upgrade...a big one at that, so, you were right...they aren't in the same class!!

Long story short, her dumbass actually told her husband that "I have a guy friend at work...and he's very nice" ...and also, told him my name". WTF?

I wasn't home on either occassion...BUT my parents were naturally frightened and extremely pissed at me, once I told them who this dude was.

I have both cars, 2005 350z and 2003.5 M3 SMG

M3 is faster than the Z.

Only thing I hate about the Z sometimes is that it's a fat *** right out of the stealership.
