for 600miles u shouldnt pass 4k rpm. after 600 once or twice or 3 times a day. redline the car untill 1200miles then after taht ALWAYS STAY ABOVE 4K RPM
These will be the guys complaining about oil consumption or weird engine noises down the road. No, break in period is not overrated. If any of these guys had a clue about crankshaft/camshaft bearing tolerances, seating rings, they would realize break in is important. No I'm not flaming any of you guys BTW.
lol see i i was thinkin the samething whenever i got mine... i said to myself the faster u go the faster u get there... and the faster the miles go up...lol. my ss had 48 mils when i bought it... it sat in the garage for a couple months... finally got the courage to let it see daylight... redlined it with in 3 block of my house...lol.... and i just let the car feel alive at least once a week and now i got 13500 miles on it and nothing is wrong... so i think the break in period is nothin to be too conserned with
If its your first RWD sportscar then yes its bad. For alot of people that breakin period isn't just for the car but for the driver to get used to the car aw well.
+1 on the overrated thing. I was redlining 1st and 2nd the first day.
keep us informed about your oil usage over your ownership period please, it would be interesting to hear how much hidden long term damage you've done to the engine, gearbox etc.

Why does my European owner's manual make no mention of a break-in period then ?
The bottom line, if an engine fails, it was flawed from the start. Do you seriously believe that a brand new engine is sold to a customer without being tested at all rpm ranges ?

If it was built on a Monday or Friday then yes, I beleive it. Though even being tested at the factory its still not 100% broke in. For the 1st 500 miles you really should vary your RPM's and get everything broke in, then after that let'r rip. It really is kinda dumb to beat on a brand new car with low miles.
