Mazda needs to bring back the "Mazdaspeed MX-5" with the Turbo Engine rated at approx. 170 HP (If memory serves correctly), if it hopes to compete with the Sky Redline.

BIG mistake for them to discontinue that model..IMHO.

I like the looks of the Soltice and the Sky (though they are a little small).

I did however see a Soltice the other day and the Ferrari-look rear window and top was broken. I would stay away from this car for the first year or two. You have to give GM credit for trying though.

I can and I will. 95% of all car interiors are plastic. That wasn't the point. There are different quality grades of plastic and while the Z's is not top of the heap (it does scratch and mar easily), it held up to thousands of people getting into and out of it much much better than the Solstice did, a great indication of long term wear.

The leather on the seats was also shot...look at how cracked and stretched out it was. And remember, this was all without any environmental wear. I will also mention that the fit and design on the Z's interior is a few leaps ahead of the Solstice.

I'm not usually one to base a buying decision on interior, but the OP needed to see that there are more things to compare than reported acceleration figures to 60 mph.

I've driven the regular MX-5 and it needed two things, a turbo and a stiffer suspension, both of which I would expect to see in a MazdaSpeed version. Hopefully the success of the Solstice/Sky will push Mazda to add the Speed part back in.

Flame me all you want, but I hope these two GM sportscars grasp a good market of those "On-the-fence numbers-shopping next-best-thing potential 350Z buyers".

If you already own a Z, dont sweat it. Love your car for what it is, rather than hating it for what it isn't.
+1, just what I was thinking.... Even with the new 315 hp HQ motor coming out Ill still keep my 287 HP Z, I have no plans on ever trading it in... I got it setup where I like it and it has more then enough power for me and I could care less if a Saturn beats me off the line...

I am embarassed for all of us for seeing the word saturn on this website.

I think it's a pretty damn good looking car, especially considering it's a saturn. That just tells me that the company is open to trying new things and seeing what happens with it. Like others have said, hopefully it will push the market as a whole into more HP and better vehicles. Will I get pissed if it beats my Z? No, I'll just pour some more hard earned money into mine so that it doesn't happen again. And then I'll get a chubby and go home and stroke it to my fantastic japanese piece of machinery.

its a good car.. a great buy... i am happy to see Saturn/GM is stepping up into the compact sport scene. more competition = lower price on better cars for us.

and i dont' think our plastic interior is all that great compare to sky's

I wonder if we can get this turd of a thread moved to the proper forum, I'm tired of seeing it here already.

This is the 350z forum.

If you want to talk about 350z's, this is the place.

If you want to talk about or compare to saturns, hondas, mustangs, this is NOT the place.

There is a special "other vehicles" forum ready and waiting. Thanks for understanding.

I say fug it...it's relevant. No one has to click on it if they don't have to.

Beats the newb banter on how Z's can hit mach 5 and be the greatest car in the universe, nothing else compares!

Theres a million other threads to get annoyed about.

Not every sports car is about straight line performance. Look at the S2000. Give it to a experienced driver and it'll kill alot of car that put out alot more horsepower. And everyone gotta agree, the Z looks better then many cars within and over it's price range.

The Z is maybe the most refined Japanese sportscar at a consumer price point in my opinion. Yes, it can be riced out and look stupid like any car but that is the owner's fault, not the car's fault. The body lines are Porshe like IMO. Especially at the rear fender flares and the profile at the rear deck, hence the euro styling influence. The nose is unique in it's own way but it has a common late model sports car influence.

Look at a clean Z32 (90 - 96) today and sombody that doesn't know cars may think it's a newer vehicle? Classic design. Look closely at a Z32 convertible in great shape. That is a well built convertible made to last. I owned one and it was a great car IMO.

Our Z's have a long heritage. A lot of time and thought goes into each new body style. These cars never turned into a Camaro or Firebird where they became cheaply built and less sportscar like. They have always been solid sportscars with good-great handling.

Good looking cars are like good looking women. I enjoy seeing them around even if I wouldn't want one in my garage for long. Zs are performance sports cars, not dragsters. I love the lady I'm with. Thank you Nissan

I'm going to be pissed off if a Saturn pulls up next to me at a light and has an attitude.

So... lets see.... If I want to make my $35K sports cars as fast as the Saturn I can optionally build the bottom end for ~$5K and add some sort of FI, ~$5K - ~$15K.

Now I've spent ~$40-$50K to beat a piece of crap that I could have almost bought twice.

ERG!!!!

Haha, welcome to the woes of the Z32 owner. Though, at least we have our turbos to fall back on.
