Default It's starting to get a little embarassing

I'm sitting here reading Autoweek and there is an article about the 2007 Saturn Sky Red Line. It's a 2.0, 260hp, turbocharged, 5-speed manual, 3K lbs, 4.9 SEC 2 seat convertable for $28K.

I'm going to be pissed off if a Saturn pulls up next to me at a light and has an attitude.

So... lets see.... If I want to make my $35K sports cars as fast as the Saturn I can optionally build the bottom end for ~$5K and add some sort of FI, ~$5K - ~$15K.

Now I've spent ~$40-$50K to beat a piece of crap that I could have almost bought twice.

ERG!!!!

I believe this car is on the same platform as the new Pontiac Soltice. It is running the ecotec motor, you know the one that is put in the Chevrolet Cobalt. These cars have the ponrential to make big power, but the way I look at it is no matter how much make up you put on an ugly woman, in the end she still ugly. As years go by all cars manufactures are going to up the standards on performance of their vehicles. Just think people are getting the same power out of 4 cylinders, than they were getting out of 400, and 427's of the past.

I saw this car last week for the first time and I thought it was like some sort of a super car... Then I proceed to find out what it is, it had a saturn badge.. BUT IMO, it is well designed to attract people who wants convertible at low price. But I won't buy it,,,

Should be intersting to see the reliability ratings in the years to come on the Sky Redline from Consumer Reports.

I can tell you that my daily driver, an '05 Pontiac Grand Prix has been pretty reliable...so don't knock on Saturn too bad.

A few other things the Solstice and Sky have going for them is that GM is now offering 0% APR for the whole term of the loan, 100K mile warranty, free roadside assistance. These incentives will sway alot of buyers.

The real point here is that the Z is quickly becoming less competitive. It needs an upgrade to add some hp stock. Maybe if they went to 4.0 and tweaked it a little to get something like 340-350 hp it would make a difference.

What would the 0-60 be at 350hp? Under 5.0?

yeah, the pontiac grand prix(not GXP) is rated pretty reliable in CR. Also the pontiac VIBE(Toyota Matrix clone) is on the recommended CR list. They are both well made vehicles.

We had an older Grand Prix and got 300K miles out of it. I forget what year it was but it lasted awhile.

Saw the Solstice and Sky first hand back in January at the Detroit Auto Show. Here is what the interior of the Solstice looked like after a couple of days of people getting in and out of it. I don't expect them to improve the quality of the interior plastics when they add the turbo, however the Sky did seem to be a little better put together as it is nearly identical to what will be launched in the european market as the Opel GT.

You guys are pretty funny. The Sky redline is pretty nice looking and it will probably blow the doors off your N/A Z with a few bolt ons. Yeah its a Saturn, blah blah blah, but the BMW/Porsche guys say the same thing about our Nissans.

Dont be pussyhurt, its nice to see the market moving in this direction (towards performance).
