Default Burnt Smell when Accelerating

Hey guys,

My 03 Z is my first sports car, and I was just wondering if it is normal to smell a burnt rubber type smell when accelerating the car fairly hard. And no, it's not from peeling out or anything....Thanks.

Hmm. Check your oil. When I first got my used '03, I'd get a burt smell when I got on it. Turned out it was almost 2 qts low on oil. Fortunately, I caught it before anything bad happened. I guess they just didn't fill it all the way when the dealer (used car place) changed out the oil.

more than likely your clutch is on its way out. How does the clutch feel? Spongey? Catches really high? is the car slipping a but under hard accel?

If it smells like rubber but you havent been roasting the tires, I can say its the clutch, 90% sure.

its ur clutch i had the same problem. on my 05 and i never reported it to the dealer.. sometimes my clutch pedel would stick. and the smell would be awful. and stick in the car for 15 minutes.. liek an *** i never said ne thing to the dealer. and when the clutch went at 6000 miles they said they will not cover it. reguardless of my driving a standard car for 10 yrs... so i had to replace the clutch and flywheel at 6000 miles i went JWT and im gettign sick and tired of that cement truck noise

but if its the same smell i had its ur clutch be careful

Same thing happens to me sometimes. I dont think its the clutch (at least in my case) because it doesnt slip or anything. It smells like burnt oil, or exhaust after driving it hard, and then it goes away after a few seconds, not 10 min. What do you guys think, not a big deal, or is time to take her in??

if it smells kinda like rubber, but more acrid, then its probably your clutch. a few times i feathered my clutch and reved the rpms too high taking off and the clutch got hot and smelled BAD. it stayed in the car for awhile. if it happens every once in awhile its ok, but if you keep doing it your going to seriously shorten the clutch life.

You may just be smelling the rich fuel/exhaust smell. This is normal in the Z durring hard acceleration.

Same thing happens to me. I have not figured out what it is but it only happens under WOT. Could be bad, could be normal. Drives fine right now though.

I guess its not really a sign of consumption then,at least in my case. the black residue doesnt seem like burnt oil, it looks and feels like carbon build up. So I guess its ok.

^ Yes, that smell can be described as slight oil burning smell. I do have slight oil residue on my valve covers. I had that since I first got my car. Since there's no oil dripping, I can't do much even if I complained about it.
