I like my rifles and cars to be automatic.

Default Social issues aside, the AT is a technical marvel

This is the best automatic I've ever driven. The only evidence of shifting is the sound of the exhaust and the tach needle - there's virtually no interruption of power flow. Our family cars had 2-speed Powerglide when I learned to drive (1963), so I avoided auto like the plague until I got the Z this summer. Compared to this transmission on a technical basis, a manual gearbox is a farm implement.

And now I can play the guitar, drink coffee, eat a sandwich, check my e-mail, talk on the phone and surf the web all at the same time while I'm driving.

Not in the manual mode. The 5AT acts like a MT in manual mode. The only reason I have a 5AT is that I have a bad left knee. I can drive a car all day on the track with a manual, but I can't commute without extreme pain after an hour or so. And as far as drag racing........or track I can hold my own with any simililarly equipped Z with my 5AT. Last season at Infineon Raceway I won the Z Car Garage Drag Racing Challenge with my 03 5AT Touring. It is relatively stock.

I would prefer to have a 6MT, but it does not make sense in my case and these arguements can go on forever.

Does it REALLY matter what type of transmission I have in my "Z"?(By the way, mines an automatic.) Why would anyone on a 350Z website bash someone driving a car that he/she went out and bought themselves ?? Who really cares if its an auto or stick, its one of the sleekest looking cars on the road!

I don't think it should've been made in anything but MT to keep it out the everyday driver category! The car looks and sounds exotic why not do like the exotics do and make it a true sports car and not the option of a grocery getter.

It is too impractical to use as an everyday driver by most people.

0-60 in my 5AT was 5.8...that's with a roadster. I am sure a coupe would easily pull a comparable 0-60 time as that in a manual- 5.2 secs or so?

Lol, its a mid-level sports car. Not an exotic.

BTW, more AT's are sold, by far than are MT's.

Also btw the sheer number of messed up MT's failing out there makes me conclude one of two things...

1. The MT has nowhere near the quality of the AT.
2. Many of you that preach this MT > AT attitude, obviously cannot shift (blowing your trannies in the process).

I do read about alot of MT trannies going down the toilet (on this website, no less). You don't see many references to AT's blowing.

It isn't a made up fact that AT account for majority of the 350Z sales.

It is also a true fact that most MT drivers cannot shift for crap. There are a few outstanding shifters... Key work being "few."

I wouldn't count on the my350z community to be a realistic representation of the typical Z owner.

I'd say the kids who blow their MT would have probably blown an AT just as well. They would be the type of guys to slam the car in D while redlining just for the fun of it. Being young and restless, they chose to get an MT and proceeded to do silly things with it 'cuz they could...

What statistic from Nissan are we quoting here? Nissan USA of course. We're probably the only ones getting AT Z in any measurable amount.

Most MT driver can't shift? Come on... How can you say such a thing ? I guess I must have grown up in a pretty special place because I might have met one or two person how really had a hard time shifting an MT. And that would only last 1 or 2 weeks. That's also pretty much the same ratio of people struggling to remember to press the brakes when going from P to D an an AT.
