Default Compartment behind drivers seat???

A stupid question.

I had assumed that the compartment directly behind the driver's seat was a storage compartment just like the one behind the passenger's seat (NOTE: I don't have the Bose system, so no subwoofer is in the car). I never really looked closely at it until yesterday. After several minutes of fumbling about I came to the conclusion that it isn't the same as the large storage bin behind the passenger seat. Is this the case, or did I miss the open/close button/switch? With my eyesight it wouldn't surprise me if I did miss something?

nope....no switch to open the compartment behind the drivers seat. you can take off that panel and put in a sub...it's all ready (but you need an amp). but it's not the same as the compartment behind the passengar seat.

thanks,

From what I can tell you should be able to buy the parts for the passanger side comparment and install them on the drivers side. I think its all the same.

yeah, you can install it....but it doesn't come with the car off the bat. i think he was asking if everyone who didn't have the bose stereo had anotehr compartment...well, that's what i got out of it. but, yeah, you can have it put in....that's true.

wish I had that space, you can fit all sorts of stuff in there... itd be a big area, in the bose models, pretty much all of the space is taken.

I went back to the thread that Wayne pointed out. I hadn't seen the post that there could be duplicate of the right side storage put into the "Bose hole".

Does anyone have the Service Manual page that shows this area?

Man, that sure looks like it would be easy to slip a box in there! I'm assuming that the stock box that goes on the right side (Part 26) will just not automatically fit on the left side behind the driver. It would be just too good to believe if it did and a second lid (Part 23) hinged right over it!

I've got the parts to install the second storage bin behind the drivers seat. Costs for the parts are around 110 from a dealership and a little less at performance nissan because they offer a discount. I got it from a forum member for a lot cheaper though. I'm not actually going to use it for extra storage though, i'm gonna mount my amps into the bin. I've got an amp rack that i built back there now but it squeaks a bit. the stock bin is a nice tight fit and will solve all the sqeaking that i get from back there. And i'm going to use the extra door to replace my stock door behind the passenger seat since i got a couple scratches in it when i was doing my install.

It sure looks like it would be easy to fit a set of rear seats in there also, maybe someone can come up with a kit that adds two seats to the rear...or atleast something for a car-seat.

Hmm... I'm looking at the image posted by Dr. Bonz and wondering if I could put 4 track tires back there if I stripped the hatch area....

Anyone try this? Getting tires to and from the track is a pain with this car.

BTW, just to give proper credit, that pic was from Scafremon. He posted it a long time ago and I saved it.
