Default modding AT waste of time?

I'm not sure if there's a more appropriate forum for this or not, but I was wandering if anyone had any thoughts about modding a Z with auto trans. Is it just a waste of time, or does it really make a big difference. A friend of mine with a Z talks a lot of **** about my Z but it's not that much slower than his with a 6spd.

mods will still make it faster so if you want to be faster then modding is not a waste of time

I'm thinking about trading in and getting a 6spd model before i start doing too much. There are things you can do with that kind of throttle control that you just can't do with AT. Right?

As has been posted before, the difference between an auto and manual is minimal. One missed shift and the auto is right on your a$$.

It is certainly not a waste of time. With a turbocharged motor the argument could be made that a 5AT tranny might be better. I would highly recommend upgrading the valve body for very quick and firm shifts.

Adding 1 to 2 hundred horsepower go for it - beyond that skip it and sell it for a manual.

if you're going to want a manual then don't mod the auto just make the switch.

Don't trade in your AT for a 6sp simply because your friend tells you it's faster. He represents the correct stereotype that most (not all) 6sp drivers hate on AT owners because they are triyng to compensate for something... and the extra pedal makes them feel more like a man.

Seriously, the difference is too minimal to notice. Especially if your friend is not a very experienced 6sp racer, you will beat him at.

That being said, get the valve-body upgrade from STILLEN, a 3.5 final drive pumpkin (from a 6sp Z,) and a high-stall torque converter (something you can't put on a 6sp,) and you will poop on his 6sp.

EDIT: I'm not trying to start a 6spd vs. A/T war. I am simply stating that there are different strokes for different folks, but whether the car is A/T or 6spd, it is just as fast and can be made equally faster.

Anyone that talks **** about automatic transmissions is a complete tool. An auto trans can be just as fast (usually faster actually due to every shift being perfect) as opposed to a manual, and they definitely have the same after-market possibility. Heck drag racing tuners tend to prefer auto transmissions due to their perfect shifting, and lack of having to worry about burning clutch's, grinding gears, or any other issues that very commonly come up with high HP manual cars.

Yes. The only way you can get more HP with auto is with stickers, my friend.

I've heard good things about Stillen's valve-body upgrade... Makes your shifts nice and crisp, no delay... If I had an automatic this would be my first upgrade...

Then I would add the Nismo Suspension, Sway Bars and Exhaust and a nice set of rims...

I find it humorous when people judge a car only by how fast it can do the 1/4 mile in...
