Default What causes this

Today I took out the z. Every time I got on it from stand still the rear tires seem to skip instead of spin or grab. Somewhere in between. What is the deal?

You have TCS/VDC on? Might be wheel hop!

be carfull, i mean i could be wrong idk about these new cars but that may be wheel hop, which you dooo not want, youll tear the rear end right out. i would have that looked at, check your tires, make sure the belts diddnt seperate in the tire, you can tell if you see a sort of line going around your tire. just somthing to check. i could be way off, corect me if im wrong just throwing a few thinsg out there, good luck

Turn off your traction control, its the button left of the steering wheel.

This could also be because of the type of surface. I've been on a road where I get spinning, and I have been on a road where they 'skip' as you've described.

I think what your describing is wheel hop, it feels like the tires are gripping and slipping at the same time??? I have the same problem, thats why I dont take off from a stop spinning anymore, unless im turning the wheel... and slidiing!!!!

I get it when I hit a relatively low bump with hard acceleration. It's quite dangerous. Best thing to do is brake hard before the bump and hit gas immediately to balance the suspension. Some people get it launching at the track too.

have you driven the Z in cold weather yet...you're in NH so its probably getting cold up there now. The high po tires start to harden = less grip which makes the tires a bit more skitish

Very true.

I assume that you are taking about the drag racers nightmare: wheel hop. The tires bite, slip, bite, slip and the rear of the car shutters. Debate as to the cause and cure continues. I say the the problem is technique. You hit the gas hard not allowing time to transfer weight from the front to the rear. For traction, the weight must be over the rear axle.

He mentions it in what you quoted... Inside the tire's construction are steel belts that can sometimes seperate from each other.

The sidewall is cracked? I had the same issue. Part of it was the overly stretched 245/35 on my 9.5" wheel. The other was the tire feathering issue that pretty much destroyed my front tires. The entire inner sidewall was cracked. Thankfully... no blow out! (phew!)

i'm from NH and get the same exact thing you are talking about when i try to light the tires up on dry pavement, it definately skips rather than spins. On wet pavement however it just spinds with no skip so i'm guessing its a combination between the cold and the dry pavement. I have the base model, so no need to worry about traction control and all that other stuff
