Question Stupid Questions

I would just like to begin with yes I searched and didn’t exactly get the information I wanted.

Stupid Question # 1 I turn on the car, I notice that the car automatically locks the doors. I go to park my car, and with the engine still on, I try to open the door with the door handle and its locked and I can't open the door. The door will not automatically unlock unless I turn off the car which automatically unlocks the doors, or press the unlock button. Is this normal? If I had to assume I will say yes but it’s kind of weird that the door handle wouldn’t automatically unlock the doors.

Stupid Question # 2 I noticed that when I open and close my doors, the window goes down a little, and then go back up. Now I’m not saying it goes down 5 inches like the issue you would assume, it just goes down a tiny bit and goes back up. Is this normal?

I apologize for these really stupid questions and hope they help someone else one day. THANKS!

P.S. I recently installed an aftermarket 2 way alarm - Clifford Matrix 10.5X - Just incase this has anything to do with the above mentioned.

I have an 04 and mine doesn't auto lock the doors.

The windows going up and down when you open and close the doors is normal.

windows are normal..

I have an 03 and the doors do autolock when you start the engine. But I don't have to stop the engine to unlock them. You should be able to just push the unlock button on the door armrest (don't know what else to call it) or push the unlock button on the handle. My handle doesn't unlock it automatically when pulled.

The reason the window moves down is to allow the door to fully close without too much contact with the window. It then moves up the small amount to make a better seal.

Thanks a lot guys! These two things are completely normal then. I was just worried since I installed the alarm, maybe they had Fed up the wiring or something. Still trying to get used to the car. THANKS For the very quick responses!

no problem.. just wanted to add that the only thing that does not sound normal is having to turn the car off to unlock the doors..

Is your's an auto? I too have an 04 (manual) like a previous poster mentioned and my doors do not lock by themselves. It's a pretty common feature on automatic transmission cars these days though.

Locking doors is a safety feature. You can turn this ON and OFF with the button on the drivers door. See your manual.

no no, I must have written that wrong then. I just meant that was one of the ways to have the doors unlock automatically, but I can push the unlock button or the button on the handle to unlock. So it’s all good, once again this is a very kick *** forum, I didn’t expect my two questions to be answered in less than a minute! THANKS!

P.S. It is a 6 speed.

The first month I got my car in 2002 it autolocked on me with the key in the ignition. Right when I closed the door it locked me out. >.< Believe it or not, I haven't had that issue since.

Hmmm...no autolock on my 06. I am always cautious about leaving the car with the keys in the ignition when i have to step out for a second.

Damn that’s weird. After turning on my car, as long as the door is closed, the doors will auto lock, but I think if the door is open when I turn on the car, and then close the door, it does not auto lock. I need to test this out tomorrow.

The Infiniti J30 would do it randomly and I was a bit worried with the Z.
