Correct. I just changed the oil about 1000 miles ago, and none lost since then. The dipstick still reads at full. And, when I last changed it, there was not much gone then either, and that was after driving for 5000 miles (Mobile 1 5w-30).

ok as a new z owner i have read a lot about this oil consumption stuff and kinda has me worried. i work for a mitsu. dealer now so wondering what is done during a "oil consumption test"??? Is it just a compression check? Are the rings failing to seat and that is causing the consumption?

Basically, the service department just tops up the crankcase and notes the mileage. The owner drives it and returns periodically so the service department can check the oil level/consumption.

I don't think Nissan has acknowledged the actual cause or defect.

thats kinda sketchy way of doing it....anyone could let a little oil out if they wanted a new engine. figured a compression test would be more accurate for blow by purposes. unless its burning oil.

Not to be argumentative, but if your new car is NOT consuming excessive oil, why would want the engine replaced? If there are other engine problems, they are also covered by warranty.

Your observation is correct, it would be easy to cheat, but why bother? And I sure don't want the dealership screwing with my car doing any unnecessary repairs.
