Hey guys, First off, I know there is a thread here on z vs. vette. The only problem is that comparison is mainly between the C6 and the Z, also please try to talk me out of this because I really love my Z.
I have found an extremely clean '99 C5 'vette for sale locally. I have always been fond of those cars, just more so of the Z. (I am also the President of the wisconsin Z club- www.zcrew.net
)
The vette only has 40,000 miles on it, and is a factory hard top(what I would want) It is also a bit hopped up with a full borla exhaust, intake, etc..... Also is a great color combo, white with black leather, and is a manual.
Please tell me why I should keep my Z and be content with it. Like I said, I really would miss it, This vette just really feels like the one!
I posted pics of my Z so you could all get an idea of the looks of it. As far as performance, it has all the bolt-ons that you commonly see:
2003 touring model with 20,000 miles
JWT popcharger
Crawford plenum
UR pulley
Kinetix test pipes
Ultimate racing y-pipe
Japtrix b-pipe
samco hoses

my uncle had a 02 c5 coupe 6spd. I really liked it, but thats because I never had to deal with the b.s. of owning it. At 9k miles, it needed a new clutch, and at 12k miles it needed new tires, and the a brake job because the rotors were warped. He never tracked it or anything, and chevys service sucks. The day his lease was up, the steering column locked (there was a recall for this, and it had the recall done, but still had the probelm I guess), and there was no way he could drive it or anything. The dealer said towing the car would not be covered and he would be charged. Long story short, he was happy to get rid of it, and now loves his 06 g35. I hear a lot of mixed stories about their reliability, so I dont know what to tell you. They handle great, have lots of power, and great brakes (untill they warped). You should check out some vette boards, might be more help there. Good luck!!!
Drive the Vette and see what you think. If you like it more than the Z, get it. There really isnt anything that any one of us can tell you to make you keep your car. If you want to know more about the vette, check out corvetteforum.com or ls1tech.com
Good luck!

I just got rid of my '02 C5 convertible because of reliabilty issues. I loved the way it looked and drove....when it ran.
Besides the piston slap, rocking seat, faulty fuel gauge, plastic headlight gears that strip out, bad alternator & power steering pump....it was a pretty good car. Well until it went into a "reduced power mode", that's when I unloaded it for a new Z. All that in 21,000 miles.
Best move I've made in a long time.

Hello,
Ask Jeff @ StopTech: he seems quite content with his 'vette... I'd like to think that my spanking him/his 350Z in my STi is part of what got him to make the jump to the 'vette. Gotta love the power straight-line performance has on most of us, no matter how unimportant we say it is

I've driven C5 Vettes and all i have to say is Faster doesn't mean better. The C5 felt like a big brutal sledgehammer while the Z felt like a more precise powerdrill. I know thats a weird anology but if you've driven both it makes sense.
