Yeah, the VVT issue seems to be the leading theory right now. Hopefully thats true and it's a simple reprogram to fix it.

According to what the dealer had to put in to fill me up for the start of my oil consumption test after 1000 miles on a fresh oil change, im burning 3qts per 1000 miles. Im getting fed up with how Nissan has treated me so far.

Damn... you got me beat.

Hang in there because they will have to address it eventually. This car is too much fun to get frustrated over this issue. Just keep an eye on it until things get worked out.

To answer the previous questions, I notice the sound when i'm in 5th gear doing around 45-50 mph. Might be clutch shudder noise... but at times I swear it sound like a valve pinging. Is 1 quart every 2k miles normal for this hi-rev motor? Oh, and to answer the break in question... I redlined it once or twice during the first 1,000 miles, but for the most part it was kept under 4k rpm. Thanks for the input

That consumption is high by normal standards. As for the pinging, try this... check your oil level and add a quart or so (estimate what's needed) and see if it goes away. I had the same problem and it was caused by the low oil level.

Hey, I just noticed you're in Jax. Take it to Coggin Nissan at the Avenues and they know all about my consumption issues. They said there's another guy here in town too that's having consumption issues. PM me if you need info or the service directors contact info.

Seems to be 1 qt per 1000 is acceptable to Nissan. That is what I was told by the dealer. I have contacted the individual with Consumer Affairs that I have been dealing with to make sure the dealer was not giving me BS. Either way, it is BS. Just a way to cover up a manufacturing flaw.

I have an 06, and don't know how much oil is being burnt, but I am sure it is more than any other car I've ever had, and I've had a few....

I also have the pinging issue, and have to wonder if the 2 are related somehow...

I'll start monitoring this when I get closer to the end of my 7 year / 100k mile warranty. It seems to run fine for now though.
