Default 06 350z oil consumption question

I've had my 06 base 6 speed z for exactly a year now and has about 22k miles on it. It seems to burn about a quart of oil every 2000 miles. Other odditity i'm noticing is that when you push the accelerator to the floor at a lower speed and higher gear, i'm getting a valve "ping" or something similar. Anyone else experience this? I run only high test gas, and have tried a octane booster and cleaner. Might be time for a trip to the dealer.

my 03 doesn't knock and ping at whatever RPM accelerating. It shouldn't use more than 1/2 a qt. between scheduled oil changes.

Oil consumption and the 2006 is not a new subject. Did you take 10 minutes to review previous threads on the same subject?

Be nice. Virginia is for lovers, not readers.

i've got almost 9k mi on my 06' now... and absolutely no problems. btw, your issue w/ the noise when in high gears at low rpm... HOW LOW?? if u are loading your drivetrain w/ a higher gear it WILL shutter.. this is normal on all cars because there is too much load for the motor when its not spinning fast enough. Try putting the tranny in a lower gear. It is after all a manual and YOU have to choose the proper gearing. Also something to note.. the Z has a noisy clutch which is amplified when u do this...

Yes, 20 people on this board, out of at least 30,000 '06 350Zs.

That would be about 0.067 percent. Has anyone notified the NHTSB about this urgent matter.

There's nothing wrong with the dipstick design!

I did my oil changed this week I probably lost close to 1/2 quart if at that. I'm very happy. I changed it at 3K interval but damn the oil was soooo black. I used Castrol GTX and I used pureone filter I wanted OEM filter but didnt have a chance to go get it. I also changed the drain plug with fumoto drain valve.

I would be very happy too. I just finished the oil consumption and was down 2/3 in 1000. Looks like you are in fine shape.

Well.. to be more realistic how about counting the number of 06 owners on this board with consumption problems out of the number of 06 owners on this board.

I know it's not a large percentage, but obviously not all 350z owners are on this site... just the cool ones.

Seriously though... it shouldn't be downplayed and if the most recent theory is correct it affects many of the REVUP 6MT cars.

I agree, it shouldn't be downplayed. I don't have the problem now, but will keep my eye on oil level until the day I'm done with the car unless a definitive fault and resolution is found.

Is the current theory you mention the PCV valve? I'm not so sure about that being it. This would either mean there are several faulty parts out there, or it is a bad design. If it was a bad design, all revups would have the problem, and if it were faulty parts I would think more people would have the cheap valve replaced, not the motor.

edited to add: Just read others not believing pcv either, including you bofa, guess you are talking VVT then. Still would think this would be more of an all, not some issue if this is it, but you never know.
