I think the problem lies between the gas pump and the car.

Did you get the gas filler neck recall notice? What year is your car?

generally with our cars, the tank won't even allow you to be fill it all the way. You probably had a small air pocket in your tank that caused the spill. Nothing to worry about.

Edit: if it happens again take it to the dealer.

If it was leaking underneath, then you need to have the dealer fix the recalled fuel hose.

Send me a VIN ill check and see if you have a recall on your Z!

Also, sometimes the gauge reads that your tank is low but it really is not....

okay i actually build gas stations and maintain the gas dispensers/hoses/nozzles etc. t would probably be a bad hose on the dispenser because those hoses have a hose in a hose so the prmary hose(the one on the insde has a leak and it back filled into the nozzle. for me 30 minutes and 200 bucks later in my pocket. =) but just dont use that dispenser if you regularly fill up there. just go to another one. also tell the owner/operator of the station.
