I think that the stock autos are good at drag racing with the help of a stall converter set to about a 3300 stall and a 3.9FD and slicks and you are gold but in a MT you dont need a stall you can pop the clutch at about any rpm you want. Also the MT tannys are way better in the autocross and drifting much better when coming out of a corner and down shifting to a lower gear to be right in that sweet spot. Also I would not trust the stock AT tranny at a higher hp level then 550hP+ with slicks, Also if you mess up you auto tranny it will cost you much more to fix then the MT. I am trying not to be biais towords MT but a statment like "the fastes 350z's are autos" Then we should not be looking at the ones on this forum. because a th400 has nothing to do with that statment They are DRAG TRANS they are of a differant breed then anything stock and way diffant then anything nissan would ever put on a car.

 

AT is good for drag racing and daily driving. MT gives you more total control of your car.

utter amazement!!!!!! I've been a member on here now for just a few months, and I can't help but noticing how certain people have nothing better to do that sit spend their entire day glued to this site,.........and offer USELESS responses to other peoples questions. Could the "poster" of #3 to this thread be any more of a d***!!!!!!! Come up with some new responses! You obviously spend about 10 hours/day on here, maybe use your ultimate automotive wisdom and offer some helpful advice. If all everyone did was search,...........you'd see about 5 new posts a day(you would have a nervous breakdown). Most people DO search before asking questions, some find answers, some don't(hence they then ask what you deem to be "stupid" questions). Just my $.02 worth

 

ceo i drive an at 350 as my daily driver too....i love stereotyping - its fun! Probably the main reason i got the at was because I didn't want to be shifting all the fing time...however i do rest my hand on the stick a lot because it makes me feel more like a man (and its comfortable)

 

My Z is my daily driver too. I work in Northern VA and it has one of the worst highway traffic in the country. I drive a MT and I'm not complaining... How hard is it to move your hand a little and your left leg a little?

the fastests Zs on the site dont have stock automatic trannys. jeremy has a TH400 which isnt in the same ball park as the stock tranny and the other guy i forgat his name has a TH350 still not stock auto tranny.i woudl get stick shift anyday i cant imagine myself enjoying the car if it was auto. if i had the car for drag purposes only then yeah i would go with a th400 or manual. definetely not the stock auto tranny

check out ZUL8R's car he ran a 13.9 or something like that, theres a vid of it online with greddy TT fully built longblock with his stock auto tranny before he got the valve body upgrade.. AUTO FTL. next thread is gonna say why get manual when u can get tiptronic and not have to use the clutch and still shift urself

Obvious statement, but they ARE automatic transmissions. Not stock and a definate drivetrain modification, but what difference does it make if you modify the engine, drivetrain, final drive, suspension etc.. Alberto with his new TT set up will break into the 10 second range, but i am sure it will not be on a stock M/T,, pretty sure he has gone through 3 stock M/T's already.

So the Th350 or 400 is a modification just like a engine build or FI setup, none of these mods are in the same "ballpark" as stock.
