Post Service Engine Soon? Anyone?

Question if this happend to anyone.

I just got the car and its got about 645 miles on it. Today driving to work the Service Engine Soon light came on.

Now I didn't have a chance to mess with it. But I looked at the manual it says to check the gas cap? I was under the impression that Service Engine soon light has to deal with actual engine more then emission or gas. Can anyone shed some light?

Should I go to a dealer?

It is 99.99% likely a feul pressurization error that tripped the SES light. Mine went off at 900 miles after I got a XM radio unit installed. Try reseating your gas cap and see if it goes out by itself after a few trips, otherwisae go to the dealer and they will reset it in less than 30 minutes. Don't worry though, as long as the SES light is on steady, the ECU thinks it is a fuel pressure problem. NOW if it starts to blink on you, you need to definitely go to the dealership asap. Hope that helps...

Did you unhook the negative terminal on your battery to let the ECU reset?

Default Just got back from service

Has the SES light come on on wednesday.
Went to dealership today for LOF.
Had them check it. I was reporting a leak.
No leak found. Expected it to be the gas cap.
Possible the loop holding the cap to car might have gotten under the edge of the seal. It has been reseated and the light reset.
Will let you know if it returns.
Was told not to worry unless it flashes.

99% Gas cap

Had it many times on many cars and most of it you just tighten the gas cap, and it'll went away after day or two.

Once it was an Oxigen Sensor mulfunction on my Mers

Actually, I'm not sure. That's just always the one I was told to unhook and the one I always saw my dad unhook at the track. Sorry I'm not more help.

My light came on Thursday last week. After I reading numerous posts on this forum, I realized that my gas cap was not tight enough, I only had it tightened enough to click once. I tightened it to six clicks. It stayed on for quite a while, but on Wednesday, I noticed it has finally gone off. It probably would have went off sooner, but I only drove to car to school and back on those days, and I didn't go anywhere during the weekend. Before you think about going to the dealer, just drive it for a couple more days.

I got mine with the light on from the dealer, they ran the codes as a O2 sensor problem, they didn't have the part-cleared the code and ordered the part, I get it fixed on tues (btw, the code re-appeared about 10 miles after I left the dealer)
