ITS A FAIRLY COMMON SWAP IN THE 180SX/DRIFT SCENE AND I HAVE A LOCAL SHOP THAT HAS DONE THE SWAP FLAWLESSLY ON A FEW 240'S AND 180'S. THE LS1 IS LIGHTER THAN THE NISSAN TITAN V8 AND HAS AN EXTREMELY EXTENSIVE AFTERMARKET. THIS CAR IS PURELY FOR MY ENJOYMENT AND I DONT WANT TO ANGER THE Z COMMUNITY OR TARNISH ITS NAME. GIVE ME YOURE THOUGHTS!!!

Currently the specs are that it is possible, considering a high rise hood is called for, b/c the frontal area of the LSx block will be too high for the factory hood clearance. My project is on hold due to excessive work, and not near enough time to be hands on with this project.

Alot of you are not using your noodle. Why spend 4-6K on a TT setup, another 2K on install, and a good 1-2K on supporting mods (gauges, new clutch, tune, etc) when he can just put the 10K into an LS1 swap.
TT setups on stock internals are reliable to what maybe the 400-450 whp range? Even with a good tune and good gas, people are still popping engines because the VQ just doesnt like high boost numbers. And even with the twins people are barely getting into the 11's. The LS1 with a cam, exhaust, intake, headers, and a small amount of N20 spray would put you into the 10's. And that is RELIABLE power.
The aftermarket for LSx engines are tremendous and the prices are very reasonable. As someone stated the cam for an LS is $350, where a set of cams for the VQ is well over 1K.
And as for the "Oh no, dont put an american made motor in the import! Your creating a bastard devilish abomination!" kind of people, get realistic. The whole purpose of doing anything performance wise to the car is to make it go faster reliably. I'm not saying the VQ is a terrible motor, but with it being so new it is very expensive to make power. Stock for stock, If you could have a possible 405hp N/A engine that still begs for more, why waste your money on a 300hp engine that crys like a ***** when it gets anywhere near those numbers? And I also wouldnt buy a C5 vette. I love the body design of the Z, it is just a shame that Nissan didnt put more into the critical part of the car, the engine.

To all the people who don't understand why the LSx motors are popular. My friend has a vette with a 408 +heads and cam, and exhaust. Car made 536 rwhp and still get's 17 mpg city.

Go for it and let us know how it went. The added torque may eat up your drive-train over time though. Not sure but that may cost you additional $$$$ to beef it up.
