Default Traded in my Scion tC for 350z

On sunday (1/14/07) I traded in my '05 scion tc for a '04 daytona blue base 350z (6speed).. The car has 21,000 miles.. I've always loved the car, my dad purchased one in '03 when it was literally the only one in town for about 2-3 months. People looked at you like you were driving a 60k car. It was great.. He ended up totalling it and I missed it alot. I finally found a Z that I could afford that wasn't a '03 so I jumped all over it.

I had a few things done to the tC (CAI, header, downpipe, full 2.5" exhaust, lightweight crank pulley, torque dampener). Best 1/8th mile time was 9.72 @ 73.44mph with a 2.2 60' on street tires. Never had 1 problem with the car, it was just slow, and looked kind of cheap.

Anyways, back to the Z. Second day of having my Z I noticed the car making a slight rattle noise when I turned it off and also some type of odd transmition sound when it was idling in N. I took it into the dealer (I got the extended bumper to bumper warranty until 75k) and they told me there was a recall on the transmition so they ordered a new one and they will be replacing the entire thing on Thursday.

I love the car, I was just wondering one thing, are they going to give me a new transmiton from '04 or are they going to put in a transmition from a '06 Z?

It's crazy, I signed up on this website back in '03 and haven't been on it since then.

Good trade. I also signed up here WAY back in the day, but after buying my Z to keep stock, i bought several other cars and joined a billion forums and forgot my account here. Now... years later, the Z is my only car and FAR from stock. Stupid me. Anyway.. Good luck with the Z! Enjoy.

probably be an 04. nissan will kick the claim if they find out the part number on the ro does not match the one that should be in the car. unless you have "good friends" on the inside.

I couldn't accept buying a TC as a daily driver. I had to have something better where I could come out with a suit on and still look cool. So I got the Z. Congrats on the car.

from what you've described that tranny noise is 100% normal... i find it hard to believe any competent shop is going to replace your tranny because of that... must be more to it that just that...

anyhow.. congrats on the upgrade.

I own both so can certainly say I know what you mean. Stuck with the tC these days due to the weather, I get kinda annoyed everytime I drive it. Highway on-ramps are particularly annoying in the tC.

I know what you mean man. My 350Z and my S2000 have been sitting pretty in the garage for 5 days. I've been running around town in my 4 banger Altima and I'm like Captain Kirk on the on ramps... "More power!! Give me more power damn it!!!!"

If the Nissan dealership is infact changing your transmission, you will most likely get the 009# transmission which would be an 06 tranny. The noise you most likely heard was just the clutch chatter. It can be pretty noisy in the Z. Good luck with the new purchase. Atleast you found a dealer that has no problems with any repairs you might have.

Normal. I had the same tranny swap done(2 weeks after purchasing!)
and the noise is still there. It's just normal...some Z's don't have it some do.

Nice upgrade. Ive seen some nice TC's around my part, and I definitely wouldn't mind having one as a 2nd car, but definitely not a daily driver. Maybe like a grocery getter or let it get punished in traffic instead of the Z.

Thanks for the replies guys. I can't believe that the transmition sound is normal, it sounds really bad when you're idling and when you shut off the car. Sounds exactly how my friend's VW GTI sounded when his throw out bearing went. The Z won't make the noise idling when the clutch is pressed in, the second you let the clutch out it starts making the "clunking/clicking noise".. At first I thought it was some type of sensor opening and closing, but then I realized it didn't do it when the clutch was in, so it's definately transmiton related. It almost sounds like there is a ghost in the car trying to row the gear boat.

On the other hand, there probably is nothing wrong with the entire transmiton, because it does shift silky smooth into every gear.

An '06 tranny would be awesome. I'm going to make a small mark on the transmiton so I can jack up the car after and see if they really replaced it, or if they were just feeding me BS. I'll let you know how it goes.

Did you complain to the dealer that it's making the same sound you originally brought it in for? Hell, if they swap mine out and it still makes the same exact noise I'll definately say something.

i saw this "Best 1/8th mile time was 9.72 @ 73.44mph with a 2.2 60' on street tires" then I was going to flame you to $#@% and call BS then I noticed 1/8th mile time and I started LAWL.

Anyway grats and welcome to the forums. This is going to be a big upgrade from a TC. See you at the track.
