Porche/Nissan Relationship
I was just wondering what’s the relationship of Nissan and Porsche. Because the GT-R is being rode tested with a Porsche let alone being suspension tuned by lotus as we all know but the Z almost looks like a Porsche at first glance to some people and with a few modifications it will keep up with one. And the 2009 z concept has the Porsche headlights. My question is where does the relationship of the two companies stem from and why does Porsche have an interest in Nissan in product development and testing...not that I’m complaining
how about, none whatsoever. just because it is being road tested in Germany and a porsche happened to be on the track at the same time means nothing at all. and IMO the Z looks nothing at all like a porsche. next time, try a google search, you may find this information out for yourself
I dont believe Porsche has anything to do with Nissan, Porsche is however involved with Audi/VW thats why you see technology being shared between the companies. Porsche also owns a great deal of shares in Audi.
Nissan road tests the GT-R with the 911 for comparison and to show boat that it can keep up with a Porsche. I guess the Z was designed to look similar it fact sometimes I do mistake a Z for a porsche at a distance. Then again I tend to forget my contacts :x.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the two companies have anything in common.

I don't think there is any relationship. The target performance for the new GT-R has always been announced as the 911 Turbo. So Porsche doesn't have an interest in Nissan, its the other way around really. Nissan uses the 911 as benchmark on the Ring to make sure the GT-R is performing to their target spec.
The comment that the Z looks like a Porsche is highly subjective. I don't think it looks anything like a Porsche at all.
Also, The "drawing" you are talking about has round headlights. So does a neon, so does a late 90s Celica, so does a VW beetle. So saying a car has Porsche headlights just because they are round is not really valid here.
JMO.

I've gotta agree with Tony here. I think the Z and the 911 look nothing alike.
I think the 911 is the wrong platform to try to shoot down and that Porsche needs to put the 997 turbo's engine in a cayman and show what it can do (with LSD....duh), and then the performance bar would be raised again, but heritage and pricing structure dictate that.
There is no affiliation, Toyota and GM have a "co-operative" agreement of sorts, and thats it as far as I know of with just affiliations from Japanese to other companies (obv. mazda = ford).

LOL at people mistaking the Z for a porsche, shame on them. Its common that alot of people just dont know whats what anymore. For example two of the girls I work with dont even know what kind of cars they drive but it looks "cute" so they bought them!! some people... LMAO

Actually there is a relationship there, If you peel off the Nissan Logo on the front there is actually a Porsche Logo there. It's how all of those people that you think are rich really get their porsches..

I think the other posts hit the nail on the head. There is no corporate relationship between Nissan and Porsche. None. Zero. Nada.
Yes, Porsche does have products that appeal to the same customer base and yes, testing at the 'Ring is pretty standard for a lot of companies these days. But Nissan brings it's own unique design and cultural ethos to the table.
Finally, I take exception with the statement, "the Z almost looks like a Porsche at first glance to some people and with a few modifications it will keep up with one". The current Z is more than a match for the Boxter, which is the closest to the market segment the Z is in. It's got a unique look that can be only superficially linked to the 911 (which costs 2-3X as much).

While the 350z received a lot of it's styling cues from earlier Z models....and even being a FR design.... it is without a doubt that it also resembles a porsche. I like to call it a poor mans porsche.
I guess it's a matter of opinion... but for god sakes it's not like someone is trying to say a mustang GT resembles a ferrari... or that the Z looks like a turd basket on wheels....
It's a fine compliment. Get over it!

people who mistake the two are simply non-enthusiasts... I can spot almost any car going down the road and tell you exactly what it is. But to a 45 year old woman at the 7-11 "its a sporty little porsche" and I just say yup sure is.
