change order = slipped delivery date?
My wife and I were riding high a week ago believing my wife's new Z was only about a month away. Now I'm pissed/bummed/in the dark...did I mention pissed at the dealer sales guy!
We ordered on 2/19 but have not received a tracking number, so I called the dealer on Wednesday 7/17 and asked. The dealer did not know jack about my car. The sales guy had a list with 15 Z cars that will be their first shipment; our car was not on their list. He stated he would call his region's rep and get back to me.
I also called the southeast region directly and tried to talk to the "right" person. I did get a rep, but not the one that supports my dealer (Gwinnett Place Nissan in Daluth, GA). Anyway, the rep had trouble finding my order, but did find it and stated it had a NOVEMBER production schedule. The order did have Navigation listed...this is an important detail.
I called my dealer again the next day...more than 24 hours later after the first call. The dealer had not even made a call to the region rep yet. I related the story, provided by the region rep, to the sales guy and he said the problem may be due to the fact that I requested to add Nav on June 19th. When I made the request, I also stated, to this same sales guy, that I didn't want to jepordize my place in the build schedule...I could do without the Nav system. On June 20th, he called back and said the "system" accepted the change, but he would not know for sure if the car would be built w/Nav until he received the invoice. He said nothing about the delivery date possibly slipping by months.
Back to the present...the sales guy promised he would call his rep on Thursday, get the facts and get back to me. Surprise...no return call from the dealer yet.
Anyway, I wanted to know if anyone has had a similar experience so when I do speak to the sales guy again, I have the collective knowledge of this great forum on my side.

After the pics of the Frost interior were posted I seriously thought about changing my order. I spoke with the dealer who said he would call NNA but he forgot. Anyway he did mention initially that the change could/probably would delay the delivery.
Sorry to hear about your dilema but I don't see that there is anything you can do about it now. It really sucks that the dealers have no clue about this pre-order program or how to listen to what the customer is saying. I always do my dealings by email...not that the Sales Mgr. responds via the same but at least I have a record.

From your story, it doesn't seem like the Nav really had anything to do with it. If your dealer today still cannot see your order number, then you really never had an original scheduled delivery date of August. If your dealer had told you that, I'd say he was either hoping, guessing, or was misled.
But you aren't alone, if that is any comfort. There are plenty of others who have not received order numbers/delivery dates yet.
Maybe next week will be when we all find out. Maybe the following week.
Maybe sometime after that.
I like to think that there is good news just around the corner. It helps.....but not a lot.

You're not the first nor the last to discover that they've gotten incorrect info from the dealer. I'd say we're all fairly disappointed at how bad the dealer's knowledge of the Z and the whole preorder process is. I don't think there's anything you can do about it now though and keep in mind that your dealer would be more than glad to have you cancel and then be able to sell the car at an elevated price.

It is really clear that many of the Nissan dealers are too busy selling the current Nissan cars to care much about the new Z's. Quite a few of us have tales of frustration generated by working with salesmen who obviously don't give a flying fig about helping us. A very short sighted way of doing business. I plan to make sure everyone I ever come in contact with knows how bad my dealer is and to avoid doing business with him at all costs - As soon as I get my car out the door, I will start shopping around for a different dealer to handle the service and any warranty issues that may arise.
