Angry Help! A Mom Hit My Car

Well decided to drive the Z to work today, I work at a school. I parked in Jerusalem, the very back. And I park normally because some of you guys hear made me feel guilty (see this thread

https://my350z.com/forum/2003-2009-nissan-350z/236144-am-i-the-only-one.html

By the way I知 gonna start double parking again, when other parks are available.

I start the car and see a note in the windshield. I知 use to this because the teachers there always leave notes. So I get out and read the note, it says:

I知 so sorry I dinged your car, call me.

So I知 like what! I get out and look. And think this isn't a ding.

Her trailer hitch tore into the rear driver痴 side bumper just below the light. I知 not ashamed to say a tear fell from my eye. I took care of all the insurance stuff, she said she would pay.

Do you think that the bumper will need to be replaced? Without any pics what do guess the estimated cost will be?

Damage:
3 inch tear in the bumper
Damage to the styrofoam thingy in the bumper
Paint damage

Front or rear? I had a garbage truck hit me and it would be a similar kind of damage. The hitch from the truck went into my bumper. They had to change the bumper and a few of the little plastic things inside. It cost 1600 cause they had to repaint a few other parts, fenders and bumper and stuff like that. It wasnt as bad as I thought.

it's your mom, though

she forgave your *** a billion times in your lifetime, so don't hold grudges.. you can find a rear for less than $200 and just replace it.

Default I feel your pain...

Totally feel your pain on that one! Just check out my post on being a dog person and you'll see why.

As far as cost...my front bumper assembly, underlying energy absorber (styrofoam), reflectors, emblem, fender liner, front shield, mud guards, wheel liners...With labor and paint and everything, it came in just over $1200. I had a $500 deductible and a great body shop.

Good luck!

if there's a hole/tear in the bumper then i would say it will most deffinately need to be replaced. depending on what you wanna do witht he styrofoam thing, i would say the price will be what ever bumper you decide to buy plus prep and paint...and install

I dont think it was his mom.

Anyway, just be thankful that the person actually left you a note and is taking responsibilty for it. Not too many people out there who would do that. (from personal experience)

You probably need a new bumper (hard to tell without pics) so it might be time to look into some aftermarket bumpers......... (if you want)

Why did she want you to know that she was a mom w/ two kids? Did she think that you were rich because you drive a Z and that you'd pay for her mistake. Total B.S. My guess is around $1500. Ask her if avoiding a parked car is too difficult for her, then she shouldn't be driving around two kids.

Cost of repair really depends on the shop.
The insurance recommended shop will probably charge around $3000 for your described damage with overhauling the bumper, new bumper, paint and if they need to paint other panels to "color match" your new bumper. Those insurance recommended shops are rip offs.

Then you take their quote and bring it to your own body shop, and ask your shop to give you an aftermarket body kit, paint and install. It's around the same price of $3K. This is what I'd do. I personally won't make cash off of the insurance company as that's morally not right. But spending the same amount as you would with their shop, getting better parts, that's alright with my morals.

Sounds to me like the damage really should only be around 1K to fix at the most if you didn't go thru insurance, just a regular body shop.

True. What the hell is wrong w/ society? If you hit a parked car would you leave a note? I would, and I would expect others to. Integrity seems to be so rare now-a-days.

Don't know how insurance works in your state, but here in Michigan you would be better off NOT going through her insurance company. If you file a police report saying your car was hit in a parking lot, when you file with your insurance company there is no deductible. But then again, insurance is f'd up in MI.

I would go through her insurance and the check be made for a full replacement. No reason not to.

[Edit] As folks have said here, she was really nice to leave that note. Most would not. At least there are some good people that own up to their errors. We are all human after all. If we were perfect, there would be no reason for insurance.
