So guys i have a 2003 DB touring bought it with 17000 miles now it has 52000 on it. My extended power train is up at 80000 i was gunna trade in for either another z or something more pratical but the loss to me seems not worth it and really just want to keep it and mod it. Im worried about my trannie going out after warranty since i owned the car i didnt really have any problems some tire feathering and i got 3rd gear grind i think twice since i had the car and 5th gear grind once also may be burning some oil not sure. I know the 2003 are some what trouble being the first year and all but it seems to have been running very strong and hasnt had no gear grind or anything other then those 3 times. Do you think in the long run i will have lots of problems with my 03 should i trade for a 06 and take the big loss or should i stick with my 03. I know its really on me just not sure wut to do I drive the car pretty hard and worried about future problems. anyone out there with 80000- 90000 miles on there with a 03

If you are worried, then have it looked over at a dealership before the extended warranty runs out. If the car is grinding, then I would certainly get it checked out. I would certainly not take a loss just to get another one. By the time you hit 80-90k you may be right side up and then be able to decide at that point what is best to do.

If you mod it out, you might invalidate your warranty anyways, so its kind of a moot point.

Do what works best for you financially.

I have never heard of anyone trading a car because it might have transmission problems or might have engine problems. Seems to me that if the car is running well, then drive it.

I just crossed 79k and the motor is still running strong. Dyno'd it maybe a month ago and hit 249whp with Pop Charger, test pipes, KJR pulley, and exhaust leak.

yes, you will inherit the cost of maintenance driving a used mercedes, especially the AMG version. Like all german cars, parts are very expensive. i'm a former mercedes owner myself..... never again lol.

Save your money, if the '03 is almost paid off then you will probably free up some extra $$ for a build or mods. Buying a new Z for the warranty and then modding it would be kind of silly IMO.

if you want to play it safe id either trade it in or sell it and try to find a brand new or VERY low milage 2006 if you plan on modding soon, or a 2007 if you plan on modding later, just my 2cents

I agree, At minimum I would take $16.5K for it, I bet you could get $19K-$21K by selling it on your own. I would also try to sell it to car max, If it is in good shape, they would probably give you $18K on the spot for it.

18k sounds about right. I traded my '04 Touring at the stealership for my '06GT. I was the original owner of the '04 @ 27k miles. Very clean, all maintenance documented. They gave me $19.5k on the trade (wholesale book value). You can always get more if you sell it outright. But it was more hassle than it was worth to me to sell it out right, so I traded it in. Maybe I'll try selling to Car Max next time.
