Default 5at manual mode limitations

If your in manual mode and kept down shifting will it allow the lower gear that will over rev the engine or not? I ask because I don't want to try it.

No it will not allow you to make an "unsafe" shift, just like it wont let you shift into 5th gear at 20mph, you can't go from 120mp 5th gear down to 3rd gear.

Thanks. I knew about the upshift, it's just the down I wondered about.

I downed it to 3rd one night running about 5k+ rpms, thought about testing the waters but then I thought if it did hit 2nd it would have put the rpms around 8k+ and BOOM! I figured asking would be cheaper/safer!

It won't let you over-rev or stall. If you are about to stall it will downshift for you. If your downshift command causes an over-rev it will delay or cancel your shift. If you have an 05 or later manual mode will automatically rev match for you while downshifting. If you're in auto mode the tranny will synchronize all shifts.

I like BMW's system. If you don't up-shift while in the manual mode, the transmission will at approximately the rev limit.

Test drives FTW.

I like the Z's better. I like bouncing off the rev-limiter at redline and hanging out there until I shift. If I want automatic upshifts, I'll put it back into auto-mode.
