For those of you whom live in areas that are beginning to plug into your OBDII port and test via that in addition to the sniffer...

I'd forget about doing this, unless you plan on trailering it to all the events.

Never the less... bad ***. I'm more curious about how the weight distribution is going to pan out.

It was planned originally to come over, but Nissan could't lay this engine as they wanted to with LHD layout. The manifolds, turbos, etc. just wouldn't fit in the < R34s... hense the reason no country with LHD has an OEM Skyline.

The more I think about this project... I'll commend you guys for making it fit. You're going to hate trying to work around certain things that we've found in getting headers to fit.

Anthere reason why the VQ won't reach the HP level that the RB did (has it stands now). Is because it's a open deck engine. The RB was just plain overbuilt. The VQ in stock form makes good power. All we seen out of VQ development is the trust twin turbo kit. That's only 450RWHP (when you compare it to the RB). When you get down to it the VQ35DE is still the new kid on the block. Who knows the VQ might new Nissan power house. But we all know that the SR20DET and the RB26DET will be hard to beat.

The VQ hasn't been explored enough to make any real assumptions about it's potential yet, be patient, this stuff doesn't happen overnight.

You know, if they can get the wieght distribution right with the RB engine in there, that combo has silly amounts of potential. The Z is already the easiest sports car on the market to drive, now add gobs of power, and a tuned suspension, and watch out! I think "WHAT Z06" would be an apropraite vanity tag.

This might be kind of off topic...but don't the Skyline GT-Rs in the JGTC all use TT'd VQs?

Kinda telling you what type of engine the new GTR will have.

Yep, they use VQ's (at least some of them do) because Nissan is developing them for racing/high performance applications!

actually that is changing, examples

1) 333hp M3 in US
2) Subaru WRX Sti
3) Mitsu Evo
4) 490+ HP AMG cars
5) Porsche HP in US and Europe is now the same
6) etc..

btw, I think we get the same HP Z car

we still are missing the skyline (though that could change soon as we see a Infiniti GT-R), the NSX Type-R/S, etc....but it is getting better

Has anyone called them yet? I havent had time today.

Wanted to see how much this swap was including all parts and labor and compare to some custom apps i have been researching for my VQ engine at local race car builders.

Also who in the world is going to service this swap unless i live near Batlground. I bet 99.99999999999% of every mechanic has never worked on one of these engines in the Tri-state ny area.

I think this swap is awesome and the end result will be a daily drivable supercar. But my gut tells me not to give up so soon on the VQ engine. I am grappling with custom turbo vs. turbo in a box (i.e Greddy) vs building an all motor + nitrous Z that can hit 11 seconds and put my deposit down on a R35 GT-R.

Actually, the RB26 is faily easy to work on. Don't you worry about getting it serviced or getting parts for it. As I got my service manual for it in 2 days, coming from New Zealand.

The motor is totally worth it, and once its sitting infront of you, you will loose your intimidation of it.

Damn, that's nice! :eek2:

Perhaps it's time to trade in the S2000...




On a sidenote: We wanted the RB/TT for our Quest, but had to settle with a VG30DETT instead - there's no FWD tranny for the RB block.


Again, that's damned impressive. But, 625hp is kiddy **** on a single-turbo RB/TT. More likely they'll be pushing 800 crank hp.
