Default Daytona Blue and San Marino Blue

I am looking to trade up the Z from a Daytona Blue to an '07 Daytona Blue or a San Marino Blue. The only problem is the closest San Marino to me is 257 miles(4 1/2 Hour trip) I want to see it in person but don't know if I am able to. What are your guys opinion on the color? To me it looks black in low light and I don't want a black car. Is this car DEFINATELY blue? or does it always look black in the shade? I am just looking for opinions, which color would you guy go for? Or does anyone have any pictures other than what is in the color thread?

SMB looks black during the day. I just saw it in person the other day. You really have to look at to tell that it's not black. It is a pretty color, but almost to close to black.

If you wanted to see San Marino Blue you would drive 257 miles. Figure that you will put 75,000 on the car. 257 miles is a drop in the bucket.

I mean I don't want to put 500 miles on my current car because by the time they locate me the one I want the price of the trade could go down

Here's a pic of my '02 DB Z with my '06 Phantom Blue RX8. I saw the SMB at the dealership. It's a nice, dark, navy blue. Mostly looks black though. In direct sunlight the blue comes out nice--I perfer a brighter blue anytime of day, though...

My RX8's Phantom Blue looks green in low light and turns a nice blue in direct sunlight. It was nice and novel for a while. Then I got sick of looking for the blue all the time...

Default 500 miles????

Your concerned about 500 miles decreasing the value of the trade-in??? What are you thinking....what's the real reason???? It's not going to decrease the value and even if it did it's not going to be in the thousands of dollars. I really doubt that the 500 miles are going to affect the value of the trade-in...honestly, snap out of it BOY, your delusional! LOL

I've seen the 07 SMB and I concur with the others, it's a dark color that looks black until you get right up on it or the angle of light is just right. It's a pretty color but everyone is going to think it's black...and that would drive me nuts everytime I'd have to explain it to someone.

I just bought a touring DB roadster with the frosted leather interior and the color combination, to me, is geogeous. I keep a California Duster in the trunk to keep her shinny between washings. Tucson is a dusty city.

So get your butt in the car and make the drive so you can see for yourself, don't rely on a bunch of us pundknockers to convince ya, we're just a sraggly bunch of proud Z car enthusiasts that need a good shave and should be on medication!!

I personal like the Navy blue colour of San Marino Blue. I always thought Nissan should have released a Navy Blue version instead of the Daytona Blue.

Here is what I mean: http://www.fast-autos.net/data/images/8753.jpg

uhh...i think it has more to do with the 9 hour travel back n forth, than the value loss...lol....9hours is a long way to travel just to see a car, and then realize the color isn't what he expected...lol...

but yeh..DB > SMB imo

Hey, I'm the guy from the DB thread. Since you asked in the original post, I would (and did) go for DB.

SMB is nice and if you like dark colors on the Z, then it's probably a great choice. I, personally, do not but many people do. Here are some threads with SMB pics. It definitely is much darker than DB.

I totally understand your desire to see the color in person before committing but if I were considering SMB, I think the pics would be enough to decide whether or not the trip would be worthwhile.

Why do you want to get rid of the car you already own? If you're totally happy with the color after owning it but you want a specific feature of the '07 (e.g., VQ35HR), go for DB again. On the other hand, if you're just bored of your car, why not go for something completely different? SMB is new this year and it might not be available for '08 so it is more unique than DB.

I hope this helps!

haha thanks for the comments guys. I think I am staying with the DB. The pictures only seem to look good in certain lights. In the garage...eh...in the shade...BLACK...in direct sunlight...nice pearl blue. Where as I like the DB in any light. And I live in PA...I think we beat Seatle for most rainy days last year or two years ago haha, and we are like the third most cloudy state. The time that car would look good isn't that often here. So I think I will stick with my DB. Thanks for the help guys and the link and pictures were great. I like the concept of the color...just too dark.

And the reason I am getting rid of the car is because I want the new interior, the new engine, headlights, Engine, taillights, 20,000 less miles, engine, etc. lol

I personally would go with the SMB, especially since your spending all that money for a new Z, why not switch it up a bit? I think its looks blue in any lighting, just different shades of it.

Come on, it's the new color, do it, DB has been out since the beginning and more than likely will be available on every model year of the Z moving forward, chances are this is the only year for the SMB.

If you really want to get the novel 2007 color...the Solar Orange would defiatley say "I bougt a 2007 model!" Then again, the hood bump would say that too. If DB was not available (that is, I couldn't order it from anywhere...that is, if Nissan discontinued it), I'd probably would've went for a RL or the SO...then I would've taken it to a body shop to have it painted DB.
