Default LSD, How do I know what has it?

I am looking at 350z's, all years, and I am accustomed to a limited slip rear end. How do i know which ones would have it? I am only looking at 6 speeds... I have heard that the g35's all have it if you get a manual, is this true? is it the same for the 350z?

Lastly, does it actually matter that much on these??

New guy, thanks for the help.

If I remember correctly, only the Base Model Z doesn't get the LSD. All others, AT or MT should have a LSD.

Does it matter? Yes. Get a Z with the LSD. You have too much power to put down through just one wheel. By avoiding the Base, you also get cruise control.

All Zs except Base have LSD. If the steering wheel does NOT have any buttons for cruise control it is a Base & does not have LSD. If you see buttons on wheel, it has LSD.

1) Base-model is only model that has open-diff. If you're not sure on model, during test-drive, shift into second at high-rev. If no LSD, your back-end will fishtail (alternative: accelerate while making 90-degree turn. Car will feel like it's standing still).

2) You need a LSD, if you want to even be a little aggressive. See 1) above.

3) If possible, get a base, and then get an after-market Quaife LSD ($1400), which is superior to the VLSD that comes with the other models.

how loud is the Quaife LSD, i heard an aftermarket lsd is not worth the mod because its so annoying and not ideal for daily driving?

If the car has TCS/VDC then you have a LSD on there. If u dont have that feature then you dont have a LSD. The only model that doesnt come with TCS/VDC is the base. Common sense.

Is there any way to adapt traction control and/or stability control to the base model? Parts from a wrecked z, or aftermarket?

I wouldn't bother with the traction control. The aftermarket LSD might be worthwhile.

The Quaife is as quiet and seemless (you won't notice it during regular driving) as the VLSD. You're refering to the clutch-type LSD. This type has multiple settings that vary the amount of slip. If adjusted for minimal slip, this type can be very noisy. This type is also high maintenance. The VLSD uses liquid, which deteriorates over time. The Quiafe is gear-type. Both of these are low/no maintenance. The VLSD doesn't react to slip until it is already occuring. The Quaife is much better at preventing silp, and doesn't deteriorate over time.

That rule does NOT apply to viscous systems, like the Z.

Your response is commendable. This is an idea that applied to various mechanical-type LSDs on older cars that is not applicable to most of the modern LSD arrangements. But I still see it being posted on different message boards.

So this is good place to dispell that myth.

Also not a meaningful test. Well-balanced cars with properly designed suspension systems will spin both rear wheels, even without LSD.

Look, in the case if theZ, this is not difficult. If its a base, it doesn't have LSD. All other trim levels do.
