If you can't afford the Z you have maybe you should get somethign that you really can afford. I wouldn't say buying a 240sx and spending a few grand to swap the motor would be a great idea if you are low on funds. Maybe just the 240sx but no motor swap.
If you need something cheaper why not get something cheap like a used Honda Civic and save up until you are able to get the Z again or something else. You would be a lot better off buying a Civic which is going to be able to be sold for a little less than you paid for it a few years later.

If it was my money for a cheaper car; used evo or sti. For a cheaper NEW car, mazdaspeed 3.
i would get a used civic, sentra, or a focus or something.... could just pay for the car... u can find plenty in good shape for 5-8k or even cheaper. no payment, good gas mileage, cheap insurance.... all that = more money in the bank to get back in the Z when u r financially ready!!!!!!!

What is your situation and what are you going to do with the Z? It sounds like you are making payments on the Z and you need to get a lower payment.
Do you think you can get out of the Z without having to pay anything? If you are upside down you really need consider sticking with the Z until you can pay a little more or if you can pay the diff.
If you are going to pay cash for a new car I suggest getting whatever but don't dump money into it and save. If you are financing another car then get something that will have a good resale value.
What are your payments now and what do you want your payments to be. If there is a diff what is the time diff in the savings if you are upside down on the Z.

Wow, I don't get alot of you all. He said something between 0-$15,000k. How is a Z06, Audi R8, E46 M3, EVO, STi, NSX, Altima SE-R, and other mentioned in this under $15,000? If you can find one, then go ahead and buy it then flip it. S2000's are touchey around and lower then 15k too, they are only the higher milage ones for that price.
My .02, gets a used Lexus. You can get a nice 97 or older 5-spd SC300 for less then $10k with good milage. Hell, for right under $15k I bet you can find a twin turbo SC300, they are still more reliable then a stock E36 M3. If you want an auto then you can get a newer one. Also my friend just picked up a 01 IS300 with 84k miles for $15k out the door(with TTL). Early 2en gen GS300's go for less the $15k too. You can never go wrong getting a Lexus.

I had a Scion TC that got totaled by a drunk driver. Back seat, front seats you can fold down for drive in movie/ fun in the wildnerness, sun roof, trunk with room, 28MPG on 87 pump gas, and all for $17,000 new I'm sure you could find a used one for less then $15,000. I still miss the car from time to time.
