Default Tires...yes once again

We all know that Nissan intends to put the Bridgestone RE040's on the Z, but after looking at Bridgestone's site, they don't appear to have a RE040 in the 225/45ZR18 size, only the 245/45ZR18. Does anyone have an explaination?

I've noticed that in Tire Rack' ads too. They show the 245's in the OEM column but that's it. If Bridgestone doesn't show it either then you probably can't get replacements. As someone said once....Bridgestone is dumping that size and Nissan got a deal to dump them on us.

I have no plans on buying RE040's as replacements anyway...who would!

Wouldn't it have been nice of Nissan to put some Potenza S03's on as OEM tires?

I addressed this on another post, but here goes. I have already touched base with my tire dealer, I will be trading the 040s for Michelin Sport Pilot A/Ss. I suggest you check with your local tire dealer/Nissan dealer and see how much it would cost to trade them out for the tire you want and take the best offer. I plan to have my nissan dealer invoice the tire dealer and add the trade-out onto my car loan just like any other option. Even if I can only get wholesale for the 040s, its worth it to me. The UTOGs(wear indicators) on the 040s is 140 and the Pilot Sports are 400!

Just get quotes from both and check for comparative prices at Tire Rack, Discount, etc., too. The RE040s will wear out in about 15, 000 miles, but if you autocross or track they are pretty good, but they are not cheap.

A great pick! I was thinking about replacing the Z's tires with some pilot sports.

I checked at TireRack and the Pilot Sport /*** are ahead of the 040s in 245/45 in every testing category they report. Plus, their better wear(estimated) characteristics are almost 3 times the RE040s. Glad to hear you really like them, makes me confident I'm doing the right thing. Thanks, dvlad

The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S look very interesting but I don't see them listed in the 225/45 or 245/45 size in 18" on the Tire Rack site.

I think they are only available in 17s, not 18s; but the Tire Rack has other replacements for the 18s. Go into their site and check on replacements for 18s on the 350 Z. They have replacements but, I think they may be only for summer tires. I'm pretty sure the all season(Ultra High Performance) are just for the17s, sorry.

My point was you can swap out the RE040s for something else if your willing to pay the difference. I am.

Everyone is making a big assumption as well. Until someone gets ahold of a 350Z and measures everything, there is no guarantee that these tires are actually 225/45 or 245/45. That may be what the sidewall says, but that may not be what the measuring tape says. I don't have any indication that they won't, but it is possible. Ask the S2000 guys/gals about there standard S-02s that aren't exactly "standard"...a 205 that is more like a 195. I guess I am saying be very careful when you change out stock tires and stay with stock wheels, if you are one of the first to do so. Make sure that the new tire matches pretty close to the RE040's.
