sv VS 350?
Hi guys i just signed up just a bit ago cause i have some questions for you 350z owners.
well i've been debating to myself over and over again, whether or not i should get an sv650 (first bike) or to buy a 350z. Then i have that thing you have in the back of your head, what's that thing called again, oh yeah a conscience. It keeps telling not to spend it on anything and save up, and wait till after college. But i feel like i'll be too old by then, im 23 and won't be getting out of school until im 27 or so (masters degree in order to work).
So what do you guys think? let me hear both sides, the one's with the halo's and the one's with the devil tails.
i signed up here because i wanted to see what you guys would think, since you guys here probably own a 350z already. I also posted this on a different motorcycle forum in order to get their opinion as well. I just want to see what people think on both sides of my dilemma

Wow...well you have two completely different worlds you're putting in front of us.
My advice to you is to scrap both the bike and 350 idea and get something cheap like a Civic. You'll have more than enough time after school to get the toys.
But of course this is the most obvious answer.

Do not get a bike as your sole means of transportation. I learned that the hard way and that was in SoCal. No matter the weather, I still had to go to school and or work.
Either get the Z or, get the bike and a beater if you don't already have one.

This question really can't just be answered by asking people their opinions. You will get a lot of answers like "Don't get a Z while you are in school" or "Motorcycles are stupid". My suggestion is to base your decision first on your needs, then budget, then wants. If you already have a good car then maybe just get the bike to play around with. If you are in need of a car and can afford the Z why not get it? A lot of people on here flame for people not paying for things by themselves since their parents didn't give it to them.
The Z is cool but I really wish I had gotten something with a little more room. Don't ask what people think, just think about what I said above and make your decision off of that.

I am like you. I own a 2001 maxima that I have all paid off and I keep going back and forth wether to ride this car until it just cant be driven anymore, or buy the 350z. Its not a matter if I can afford, just wether Id want to use my money I saved for a car, or something else, well see!
But i would def not get a bike for my daily driver, but that's just me

Being a bike rider myself, first of all , you cannot own a bike unless its garaged at all times. The get ripped off all the freaking time. Second bikes are money pits, and if you get hurt (very easy to do ) you will set yourself back a long way in school. Stay focused in school and get a bike when the time is right.
thanks for all the reply guys, it really showed me what path i need to take in order to make a decision.
Right now i drive a 97 corrolla for school and work, i've just been getting really tempted at spending my money on something nice. Because for some reason i always see people my age with nice cars already especially at school (cal state), makes me feel like i haven't accomplished anything in life (which i know is stupid, because thats the whole reason im going to school for).
Thanks again guys, i'm going to most likely save my money and invest it. Holding off on a bike and a nice car is probably the most logical thing to do in my situation. Like what TurboTrey said need/budget/then want's.

I wouldn't get a bike yet, My friend got one last summer and almost died, he hit a car going 60 MPH and spent his whole summer in a body cast, He's and idiot and getting another bike today though, I love my Z, I would probally get the Z if you can afford it, Im 19 and I wanted to get the Z when I am young because I know once I have a familiy ill probally have to get an SUV
If your willing to work a little harder to COMFORTABLE own a Z, I say go for it.
For me, at your age, having a cool car would be the motivation to work a few more hours to have it. And feeling good about yourself also helps with school.

Maybe he has the money in the bank or someone is buying it for him. That is why I say you can't ask opinions because only you know what your needs and financial abilities are. If you think you can just barely afford it then I would say you can't. If you could easilyl spend $500 a month on a car then go for it.
One thing to think about is that if you finance it you will be paying $500 a month for the next few years. Don't think that just because you can afford it now that you will be able to for a long time.
