Obviously a noob . . . here's a thread that may educate you. The two fastest 1/4 mile times are Zs with an after-market A/T:

The second problem with the AT is that it may not be quick enough on a FI car so that the engine hits the rev limiter before it can shift, but this can be fixed also.

IMHO with a stock Z the stick shift can be quicker to 60, but the AT is more consistent. As horsepower increases, the efficiency advantage of MT decreases and the consistency advantages of AT prevail. With FI the problem is too much power on launch with MT OR AT, so that practice is the determining factor.

For the twisties I would take the MT. For stop and go traffic I would go with the AT.
You do not need to pull the brake light to powerbrake in the Z ... like you said ... hold the brake, give it some gas, and you can hold it at around 2000 to 2200 RPM's before tires cut loose. Depends. So, yes you can. Get a high-stall converter to launch even higher.

I use to drive MT with my previous cars for over 9 yrs, I recently switch to a 05 AT5, I have no regrets and I enjoy it...so everything has a trade off, nothing is really better than the other. It all depence on your needs and how you see it.

with an AT it downshifts to the lowest gear. so if u play on the street or highway with turns and traffic... AT = lose cause they shift like chickens w/o a head.

tiptronic is for drag racing... if u plan on going to the drag strip like every week, well... i guess AT works best for u. why do you want to be a professional drag racer in a Z? u are going to lose to ALOT of people.

AT is also for people that drives like a grandma and cant multitask.

Z is for the drift, the slide, the control. that's where the Z excels, so why not get a stick?

What a fcukin tool. You actually think the variable valve timing kicks in at 5-7krpm? Go back to driving hondas u newb. And your last comment...I am not even gonna get into that.

Just looking at the 1/4 mile times, there seems to be only a .1 second in difference between the AT and MT. Unless all those times are fake? Which I highly doubt. So I don't know, It's all about personal preference, drive whatever the hell makes you happy, because either way, you're still driving one hell of a car in the 350z

You should have searched before you start a AT vs MT thread. They always turn like this. And you are right, AT or 6spd, a Z is a Z. End of story.

What makes us think he can read? He does not even know how to use proper punctuation. Well, from all his cyber bragging, maybe he thinks he's such a "nacho" man that he can get away with it.

If you are referring to me then I said that the auto downshifts pretty quickly in tiptronic mode.

What do you mean by "he never driven a manual??" I am British FFS! I started driving stick shift when I was 13.

"Save the auto for lil girls". Kids!

Not long ago the MT had many advantages over the AT. With all the latest and greatest technology, that is no longer the case. Performance wise, AT's are right on par or slightly better than the MT in most cases.
And yes...........I have owned and driven MANY MT's. And all you young 'uns that think you're special because you can drive a newer MT have no clue. The MT's of old were down right brutal at times.

you should just buy a Z and call it a day and be grateful because some people don't even have money to buy a car to transport them around, and here you guys are arguing about which transmission is better ...
