Tracks in NY
I have never taken a car to a track so I don't know how this works.
Basically I wan't to take the Z to the track and just go bonkers.
Do I need to be a part of an organization or a member at the track, etc.
Where can I find a track in the New York area?
Thanks
Feel free to move this if needed

If you are talking about road courses (and I hope you are - drag strips are for monkeys ) your best choices are:
- Limerock, CT - about 2 hours from NYC
- Watkins Glen, NY - about 4-5 hours from NYC (near Cornell U.)
- Pocono, PA - about 2-3 hours away from NYC
- Summit Point, WV - about 5-6 hours from NYC
You can go to these tracks through many organizations. Some of the best ones are the car clubs (BMWCCA, PCA, Quattro Club, etc..) who generally don't require membership (although it helps in getting in). There are also several non-specific groups that allow anyone to come such as PDA, NASA, MClub, TracQuest, etc... These often do have an optional membership fee which will give you discounts and is generally worth it if you do more than one event with them in a year. At the final end of the spectrum are organizations such as Skip Barber, Bertil Roos and Bondurant which allow you to drive their cars (street cars in the driving schools, open-wheel formula cars in the racing schools). These are great but are 5-10 times more expensive than the others - but if you break the car, you don't really care.
I instruct for the BMWCCA and highly recommend coming out to the track. It is a blast and the absolute best way to learn to drive well.
