I hate the rain..
Well this is the first time I've ever been in a wreck before, so I guess this is all new to me.. I was on the way home going about 63 in a 65 and it had just started raining. I was goin up a hill and right when i got to the top I felt the strange feeling you have when you suddenly lose traction and before I could react I was sideways in the middle of the road and slid backward into a guardrail. The front of my Z is in perfect condition and none of the wheels are messed up. Heres a picture of the back.. I guess now I just wait to see hear from the insurance company if it's totalled or not. Looks fixable but I can't tell if the frame is messed up anywhere. Makes me sick looking at this ...

Preciate it. The rear bumper was lying by the guard rail at the time. I do have to say, its pretty scary getting in a wreck and thinking that could be your last moments on earth. But as soon as I realized I was ok, I started worrying about my baby. Stupid rain

Hey man, I know exactly how you feel...
This happened to me last September. I was going 50 in a 55, in a torrential downpour. Everything was fine for about 20 miles at this speed until I hit a sheet of water at the bottom of a hill. The Z went completely sideways then shot straight into a guardrail. I estimate that I hit the guardrail at 30-35 mph. This is what $15,000 of damage looks like:
The most important thing to realize is that YOU ARE OK and that these things can be fixed.
Glad you're OK

Eh.. always brings a tear to my eye to see such beautiful cars in this situation. At least its not a Porsche and nothing in my engine bay got messed up though. Maybe if I'm lucky I will get a new exhaust from it all

hope everything works out. i'm really curious about Z's without VDC. i can't say how many times it's saved my rear end. does TCS cut power to the engine much like VDC? i heard it just messes with your brakes.

glad you're okay. from that pic, very big chance it will be considered totalled.
I also agree about hating the rain, especially driving the Z in it. I worry everytime I see sheets of water on a highway, where I have to go 45mph, because it feels so unstable like the rear wants to go loose.

ive never felt "phenomenon" before. anytime ive felt the car loose any sort of traction in the rain, it was due to my driving error. your car shouldnt just loose its back end cause of rain. ive felt my car hydro planning but getting off the gas and letting her regain traction is pretty much common sense. when i was 17 i spun out in water because i was an idiot and gased her pretty hard around a turn. i dont buy it when people just blame the car. in anycase glad you are alive and well. hopefully she gets fixed up.

Hey man, I had a 2003 Redline Z, and I was driving home in rush hour traffic and some middle aged lady in front of me decided to jam on her brakes. With an 18 wheeler next to me on a 2 lane highway, my only choice was to slam on the brakes. Thankfully I came about 6" from her rear bumper and I looked up at the rear view mirror.. all I saw was a huge grille. It was a Dodge Durange slamming into the back of my car at 35-40 mph. He slammed on his brakes so that helped a little.. I guess anymore would have probably caused injury to me. Either way because of the impact my car got thrown forward into the Jeep and did damage to the front as well. My rear looked like yours.. plus the quarter panels went to hell. And my front bumper, hood, headlights, radiator, supports, etc... all broke. And Allstate told me the cars value is so high that they could have fixed it, total damage was like 18k. Although something tells me that it would have added up if they started working on it. Either way, good luck man, but if you see the bill getting up there, dont keep it. Its not worth it after major damage to the frame. Just gives you an excuse to get a new one
