91 because that's all we get here in cali.

I work at a refinery and trust me when I tell you that while octane does indeed matter, the actual 'brand' of gasoline does not. Almost all brands of gasoline are chemically identical to one another with the exception of some additives.

Of course they are all the same.. The additives are what differentiate them from each other. The additives are also what keep the engine clean and free of deposits.

I had a 2005 F150 with the 4.6l V8, and the EGR valve went bad at 33k miles. Luckily this was replaced under warranty and the shop foreman asked that I not use cheap branded gas cause it does not help control deposits. He said the EGR failed because of excessive deposts. His idea of cheap brands were Racetrack and other family owned non-branded stores.

If that's the case, I'm curious where you think these family-owned non-branded stores buy their gasoline from? You can't just buy gasoline off the street, it has to be purchased from a refinery that processes crude oil. Being that even the smallest refinery is worth hundreds of millions of dollars and is a very complex operation, I know of none that are independently owned. I'm fairly certain that all non-branded stores still purchase their gasoline from large oil companies (ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell, BP, Valero, etc) or one of their distributors.

The fuel additives are added in the tanker truck when he fills up for his delivery.

Delivery to No-name guy fuel station = basic additives.
Delivery to Name Brand fuel station = full additive package.

This allows the multimillions fuel companies to share their base stock of fuel should one of them run low.

I use whatever 93 octane I can find.

I think people really put too much thought into this. I think if it was important to stick with one brand of gas, people would know.

As an aside, I learned a lot from this thread. Thanks.

Actually, F1 fuel is basically the same thing as "Street" fuel.

Your Z would run with F1 fuel just fine...

Very interesting comments here fellas. Thanks for the responses but I recall someone saying, that just if the gas burns well does not mean it is the most powerful, as far as combustion is concerned.

Which gas do you think creates the most ponies for your car? The top tier ones or non top tiers? Disregard deposit leftovers.

Peace!

None.

Energetic content is almost identical.

Deposits will hurt performance though. From sub optimal atomisation to increased turbulance in the intake.

Basically, appart from FI, only one thing can afted power. That's timing. If your crappy fuel doesn't allow the ECU to optimize timing, you loose power vs what the engine could deliver.

I was gonna ask this same thing....to add fuel to the fire, how about not supporting the Saudis when we do fill up at the pump?

Attached are those who purchase from the $$$ hungry SOB's in the Middle East (In thousands of barrells).....this is from the EIA and US Department of Energy.....
