350Z-2006

I just purchased my base Red 2006 MT on Friday March 30.
It had 100 miles on it.
Obviously taking my chances on getting a "oil consumer".
Absolutely love the car.
At least I know the possible problems and will start documentation beginning with the first oil change and all that follow.
The way is see it I'll find 3 possibilities.
1) no oil consumption problems
2) oil consumption problems that will be fixed, with possibilities of a fix to the positive/better.
3)problems with unsatisfactory fixes.
I believe my dealer will help me in anyway they can.
Another plus is many have documented problems before me so their pressures should help those that follow.
I will definitely keep an update with my purchase.

What a joy of a car to drive

At least in my case from knowledge from this group I now know proper channels to help get things resolved through the dealer,and if not..... BBB Auto line & lemon law guidelines.

I do not expect any problems but feel from the knowledge of others this will help, And I can and will benifit from their experiences.

just save yourself the headache and get the 07. Id rather have a bump on the hood than an oil burner!!

If it is a manual transmission it has the problem. Buy an 07.

My '06 was born on 10/06. Current mileage @ 2,000 miles. I have been watching my oil like a hawk during breakin.
I've been driving it pretty hard since breakin. So far it's consuming @ 1/4qt per 1000 miles.
My '04 Z consumed about as much oil (I had it for almost 3 years).

I have an 06 with mine havin a birthdate of 02/06 and i dont have a oil consumotion problem. Having said that get he 07, its all around better

I have an 06' 6MT and the only oil consumption problems ive had are after hard driving. Just daily driving doesnt produce any consumption problems...just gotta put in a 1/4 of a bottle of oil in after I go to the gap :/. the extra grand or two is worth it for the 07's though. Theyre rated at "306 hp 268 tq" but they were dynod on new SAE standards. On the dynos 06's were dynod on (that rated ours at 300 hp 260 tq) theyd run closer to 320 hp and 280 torque...theyre considerably faster...mid-low 13's in the quarter.

I bought my 2006 manual transmission in February 07. Dealership told me it was a 2006.5 year model. I have a little over 2,500 miles on it & have had no oil burning issues & have checked my oil level frequently because of the noted problems with the 06 model. I think either choice 06 or 07 is great. Just keep in mind that there have been issues with most of the earlier 06 models.

05 6mt G35 Sedan REV with 28k of miles before I sold it. Driven at Road Race Tracks and Autox a lot. Never burned a drop of oil. Used Amsoil 5w30.

I've a manual '06, built in June '06 and now with 20,000 miles on it. Watch the oil regularly and consumption is about 1 qt/5500 miles. When newer, it was more but I was going WOT daily(possible link). If you change oil before these milages, it really isn't an issue. I agree about a lot of the posts that you should look at the '07s, but not because of the oil thing. Sounds like a good price you've got going though on the '06.

i could not get a decent reading on the stick and was thinking I had oil consumption of about a quart in a little under 1200 miles but I could not even add a quart without it being overfilled. moral of story our dip sticks suck and make sure you are really gtting consumption.

My 06 ZR M/T has about 2500 miles, it's been driven fairly hard or fast, so far no detectible oil useage. When I say hard driving, I've had it up to 130mph+ on a couple of occassions, a few hard launches w/ no wheelspinning, not into replacing tires any sooner than they will melt away w/o my help. So far I'm happy, also had an 03 Z, enjoyed it too, but the 06 ZR is a much improved sportscar.

I am a little puzzled by the many complaints about oil consumption with the 2006 Z. I have a new one that I bought about 3 weeks ago and haven't even reached 1000 miles yet. Being a believer in Consumers Reports I read their review of the 2006 Z. It was very positive and one of their recommended cars. I checked out the frequency of repair rates for the 2006 in their April auto issue. The Z is significantly below average in repairs in virtually all areas. Nothing but a straight line of little red circles. No indication of engine problems. In fact, this goes for the 2004, 2005, and 2006. They don't usually publish figures on a car unless they get a fairly large number of responses on their auto survey. I would assume that, if excess oil consumption were a problem, it would be reflected in the ratings, particularly those for major engine problems. Is it possible that the oil consumption problem is being blown out of proportion? Could things like lack of adherence to the break in period and driving style have anything to do with it?

The complaints and problems that you read hear are anecdotal at best. Certainly relevant, but far from statistically valid. What I see is a placebo effect. Its borderline hysteria. A member mentions a problem, then others will comment “Oh my God, the same thing happened to me!”
