Default Hitting Redline :(

Well in all honesty i feel like a dumbass today. I just recently bought my 350z and i am not at all use to the power and the torque, and no where close to use to the redline (coming from an RSX-S). Anyway i was driving today and i wanted to feel a rush, and it seemed to go by to fast to realize what i was about to do. As i sped up i didnt realize how fast the rpms kicked up and i wasnt paying attention. I kept flooring it when all of a sudden i felt my car lose its power, by lose its power i mean as i was pressing the pedal the car was slowing down, i look at my rpms and they are slowly decresing. The thing is it didnt bounce or flicker off of the redline it just lost power kind of like when the govenor kicks in. I am wondering if anyone else has done this and what kind of damage this can create. Again i would appreciate possitive comments and not remarks to make me feel worse. I am already angry as it is and i just want to know how bad this could have been for my car. Thankfully nothing happened to it and all was as normal as it has been since i bought it. Please dont make any rude remarks because i understand and i already feel like a dumbass as it already is. So.. all that being said, if nothing is different on my car, and everything runs perfectly, am i lucky? And what possible things can come into effect for the future? How dangerous and bad was this for my car?

if you have a revup, try setting it for 6400
for a 287, try setting it for 6200

power drops off after that anyway, so no need to go higher

ouch... it takes a bit to get used to. I dont know why it diddnt bounce off the rev lim. though... and yes thats a good way to pop your motor. But as far as if you diddnt hurt anything your just causing problems further down the road. just be carful next time. You'll find after driving this car for a few weeks Thats its incredibly easy. IMO its a very user friendly car. And you have alot of "feel" with the tranni. Glad your Z is ok though. It owned you.... Im not going to lie as it did me starting out. But Its safe to say that you will get used to it rather quickly and i hate to say it but the car wont seem so fast after you have been driving it for a while. Thats about the time the mod bug kicks in. Ok im rambling. Good luck!

The power cuts out after i hit what the revup was set to? It was at 6000 and seemed unusually fast.

Exactly, coming from a car with a 78000 Redline with no torque to this 350z is a drastic change.

In all honesty you will be fine, just don't do it again. When you hit the rev limiter this can shut down fuel delivery and increase chances of detonation. You could blow the motor if it happened over an extensive period of time, but if you are still running you will be ok.

Yeah, the light should blink as you get close to what you set it for, before it goes solid *at* what you set it for... I doubt you hurt it... That's what it's there for. :-)

I'm suprised all the flamethrowers haven't come out yet:

The revlimiter is there for a reason, for situations exactly like that. It will cut fuel and the RPM's will drop to protect the engine. I've bounced off the rev limiter many times, mostly by accident or whatnot.

Its a new car thats going to take some getting used to and is to be expected. Just don't do it all the time and you'll be fine. I came from a Honda Prelude and still somtimes catching myself downshifting to pass someone on the highway... LOL.

Haha awesome. Anyway it felt like it cut off i am just grateful i didnt bounce off the rev, I did it when i first got my RSX, and it was loud and i could def tell it bounced, but the Z seemed like nothing happened, no sound, nothing. I figured that little thing came in handy, i am very releived.
