Default A friendly reminder.

Most people does not think much about what it takes to keep the car on a road.
I had an incident yesterday which intrigued me to start this friendly reminder. After a long weekend in Vegas, I showed up at work yesterday feeling pretty tire but nothing too extreme, but it really hits me when 5pm roll around. So there I was cruising home on a highway doing 65 when I dozed off. I was on the left lane with tall concrete barriers that divided incoming traffic. I jumped up immidiately after the tire started rolling on to those notches/crests that they put into the side the road for the sole purpose of waking people up. My front bumper was about 16 inches away from the concrete barriers when I came to and pulled out. I would have head straight for it had I not wake up on time. So here's a friendly reminder, if you're feeling to tire, pull over.

Hehe, that reminds me, one night me and Nish were on our way home from San Antonio and she was asleep on and off so I laid my head back on the headrest and closed my right eye and kinda hung my mouth open as I drove with my left eye open. A few minutes later she opened her eyes and looked at me, I looked sound asleep like that. God I've never heard her scream like that, I could'nt stop laughing. She was noooooooooot happy. Anyway, thought I'd share.

I've been in that situation a few time, I def pulled over for a bit to wake up before continuing on!

However, you mention the ride to work. I find people at this time are also barely awake and are just performing their "routine" going through the motions.

Lucky you. My friend fell asleep driving a lifted Tacoma and drove into ditch landing on a mailbox and his toolbox came off the truck and landed on the hood. Not a good day for him!

I really do not understand people that sleep behind the wheel. If you are sleepy, don't drive, pull over and take a nap. I myself was tired and sleepy while driving at some point but never, ever fell alsleep behind the wheel. The thought of endangering other people and myself scares me alot and I guess that thought runs through my head every time I feel like sleeping behind the wheel.

I drive all day for a living. I have nodded off,and not by choice. It just happens. I now pull over no matter how close i am to were i'm going. A 10min. snoozer, best thing in the world.
And i also had a friend 7 yrs back doze off comming home from school late at night. He apperently hit a telephone pole at a decent rate of speed(undetermined) died in car fire. It's a true storie! The only thing were all unsure of is weather he died on impact or if the fire finished the job.
Here's thinking of you rick.....RIP.

I swear those rumble strips are the best inventions in terms of accidents prevented since paved roads were invented yet you still don't see them on every highway. They are coming out with camera systems that monitor your eyes and wake you up if you close your eyes or take them off the road for to long.

I guess I've had the displeasure of not waking up in time. I was driving early in the morning on the way to work when I started dozing off.. Tried everything like slapping myself in the face, blasting the radio, windows down.. etc. My eyes closed, and the next thing I feel is a sharp pain going up my neck and my car hitting something ahead of me. my eyes open just in time for me to hit the car ahead of me again (I'm assuming I hit the car, my car started to stall and surged forward again).. and a whole bunch of smoke appeared from under my hood.. Damn Sheety way to wake up!!

Luckily we were in traffic so at most I was going about 25 miles/hr or so.. and so the airbags didn't deploy. And luckily the car wasn't totalled. (it was my integra type-R.. still sucked really really bad!). But my neck is still sore and hurts on a daily basis.. this was probably about 2001..

Pull over to the side and don't worry about being late to work..

bawhahahahaha, i didn't something similar to this.

Girl was sleeping...had been so for a while and i was really bored, had the radio down so that it wouldn't wake her up and all that, anyhow...we were in a suv and the sides of the road were just flat and all that, nothing dangerous if you go off. So i put one hand at the bottom of the steering wheel and just let me head drop forward, drive off to the left and hit a bunch of the reflector bumps, she wakes up but i act like i'm sleeping still, she starts shaking/poking it me b/c we are headed on over to the left side of the road and then i kinda fall over to the left a bit and then start heading for the grass a little more agressively (watching out of my left eye a bit) and she screams so freakin loud, i jumped up and screamed, looked at her and kept screaming and then jerked the car over to the right and then into the grass over there...drove through the grass screaming like i had no idea what was going on, then i started laughing so hard i had to take a break. Oh man did i catch a beating for that.

I have pulled over and slept many times. No shame in being safe.
