I can...dunno about you guys.. but I've been as low as 600rpm and was able to accelerate back up from it. Not going to break any aceleration records doing it..but it slowly pulls back up into the rpm band.

its not really about the powerband, but i guess its just a matter of preference. the way i see it, the higher gear yields better gas mileage, lower oil consumption, and less strain on the engine. the oil pressure drops after selecting a higher gear, so im guessing this means less oil is being burned?

I never shift out of first gear because I'm too cool for anything less... I love everyone hearing my exhaust and my engine rev real high... makes me look mad cool yo... don't be a sissy... your engine should live at redline or you're not a real man.

Mileage..and at anything over 40mph I can pass cars in 6th gear with out major effort..just takes longer than if I switched down to 2nd.

6th gear - for the casual driving experience.

I think that driving under 2000 rpm is bad for the motor because of the deposits that will build up over time in the intake and valves.

I run 1st to 5000
2nd 3000
3rd 3000
then if im not at speed limit i shift to 4th or 5th
6th is for interstate 70+

btw i still avg 20mpg

When in doubt, read your owners manual.

When in doubt, trust the seat of your pants. If you know your machine, it will tell you more than the Tach

At 35-40 mph I shift into 6th, unless I have a decent hill to go up. This car gets above 30 mpg when you are doing 40 mph or so in 6th gear.
