Default Daytona Blue Paint

I'm getting ready to order my Z and can't decide between Daytona Blue and Chrome Silver. For you Daytona Blue owners, are you having the same paint problems that the Super Black owners are having? (i.e. orange swirls). Decisions Decisions...

Bottom line, you're going to get orange peel on any color you pick. It's the paint process and not the colors. Don't let it bother you, though, I've seen cars that cost literally three times as much as the Z with orange peel.

And I LOVE my Daytona Blue. I don't have any swirl marks in my paint, but I won't wash my car with anything but Zaino and dry her with a Chamois.

But you need to get whatever color grabs you first--don't second guess your instinct or you'll be disappointed later on.

Good luck, and post pics when you get her!

With three types of silver out for 2004, Daytona Blue is a better choice. If you can get the Brickyard, rumor is that they aren't making it anymore and the color is great. Doctors agree too.

I have a DB and love it yet I have to admit the paint is crap. A bird **** on it and damaged the paint and I gave up counting the number of chips. Part of owning a car, though must including myself will tell you that the durability is something to be desired (regarding the paint). If you could live with that I feel that you will love the car. I have had mine for 5 months and still find stupid excuses to drive it.

Ripples in the paint. Reflexs light differently than paint that is as smooth as glass.

Its funny that we are in the same area (Cincy) and had the same dilemma. I ultimately ended up going with Chrome Silver. I am just toooo paranoid about scratches. Daytona Blue is soooo beautiful though.

What dealer are you ordering through? Where in Cincy are you?

Do you mean orange peel, or just visible swirl marks (hard to avoid on any really dark color car)?

Orange peel, as has been said above, seems to be across the board independent of color.

Swirl marks probably show up the worst on black and brickyard, if I had to guess. They are just small scratches in the surface of the paint, but are more visible on darker colors. I haven't seen any yet on my DB, but it is still fairly new

Very very little orange peel on my leMans. In my humble opinion there are way too many silvers out there already. As someone once posted a dealer said he was gonna puke if he had to order another silver Z. Be different, go Blue!

Oh, I get it. It's not an orange discoloration, it's the roughness of the paint. I noticed that when I was looking at the car. I'm not worried about that ... ALL new cars have that. That makes me feel better about getting blue. (You all are right, there's too many silvers.) Thanks for the info all.

nissan350z: I'm getting set to graduate from Xavier, so I'm in Norwood right now. I've been to 3 dealers, Falhaber on Colerain, Kings Nissan in the Kings Automall and Kerry Nissan in Florence. Falhaber seems to be the best of those 3 and I definitely will NOT be ordering from Kerry. They are telling me a week to 90 days to take delivery on an order, is that about right?

I've only dealt with Falhaber (my dealer is Aaron Harris). But I went to look around @ Kings, and they have one hell of a markup. @ Falhaber, I got MSRP for my order, but all the other Zs on the lot were spoken for(except the Demo).

Yeah it takes up to 90 days if they get the car shipped from Japan. I was going to wait this long, but Falhaber worked hard to intercept one for me that was intended to go to another dealer. I should be getting it in 10 days; I ordered last month.

So congrats on your graduation. I just graduated myself in Dec., and moved up here from the South soon afterward.

One thing about the DB though, is that people have had some nasty problems with color matching between the metal body panels, and the plastic pieces, like the bumpers, and the fuel door. I've seen a couple DB Z's with this problem, and it does not look good. The plastic parts look lighter in color than the other body panels.

I've had my DB touring for about 3 months now and I haven't seen another one. But I have seen several silver. My paint dosen't seem to have any orange peel and all my body panels match just fine. Get the Daytona Blue!!!!

Go with DB, there are too many silvers! Plus I think it is the second best color next to black.

LoL you sound like drake3 trying to convince me not to get DB. He has one, and we live right down the road from each other.

As you see, I ordered CS, but it wasnt totally his coercing that made me do so. I'm paranoid about scratches.

All DB Z's will be a little off in color in certain light. I've seen at least 10 and everyone had issues from certain angles. Just take a look at the gas cap cover on a cloudy day.
