Default 2003 Track model or 2006 Base model?

I'm new here and am in the process of deciding between pursuing a 2003 Track Model or a 2006 Base Coupe.

I've had my eye on an 03 Track model around the neighborhood of 21K with less than 20k mile on it. I know that 03 Track models had Brembo brakes, better suspension, VDC, and 18" wheels. I just found out today that I can get an 06 Coupe base model for an extra $2,000 that also has less than 20K miles on it. Which one would be a better deal?

Also, how important is VDC? I know that Track models have it, and that the base model doesn't. From reading the threads on this board, it would seem that having VDC could be critical under certain situations....

Thanks in advance

I'd go with the track.. its low mileage for the year and is 2k less than the base, just make sure to check about the possible tranny and tire feathering issues.

Are you planning on keeping the base model stock ? If not and you plan on doing modifications, plan on adding to that $2,000 difference. If both car's have the same mileage I would chew down the price on the 03 Track, ( better chance w/ the older car, more bargaing room) and buy that >>> alot of upgrades between the base and track...that's IMHO and what I would do,,, Good luck !

I have a 2006 base model with 17k that I've listed here. I'm willing to sell it for 23k. It does not have any oil consumption problems. I've changed the oil 7 times now. In fact the car is in pristine condition and I just put on brand new Toyo tires all around. Interlagos Fire color also.

The 06 has a lot changes in terms of quality. I had on 04 also and basically the earlier models looked and felt really cheap. I suggest you sit in and drive in both to get an idea as to what I am referring to.

i own an '03 track and i'm completely satisfied. some things to consider...

'03 has the 287hp engine, all 6speed 06's have the rev-up 300hp.
'03 has limited slip, '06 base ???
track has brembos, base doesn't
'03 small hid's, '06 new larger hid's
'track has forged wheels by rays, '06 ???
'06 has better interior
'03 has transmission issues, i had mine changed under warranty
track has airbags everywhere, '06 base ???
'03 has more torque

that's all i can think of the top of my head. BTW i would still chose the track.

I don’t know which model suits your needs, but I can tell you what members are driving.

^ your using all of them tonight man! lol!

I would go with the track Z as well. The LSD, VDC, Brembo brakes, and Rays track wheels would sell it for me. The 06 is supposedly a little faster with the Rev-up motor and 300hp, but Im not completely convinced. Its not like comparing it to an 07 Base, which would be another story.

Other then cooler tailights on the 06, which are direct replacements for the 03-05, I see no reason to get the Base 06.

Add to the cost of the Base, the cost of installing a Limited Slip Differential. I say that because you were considering Track and think the VDC is something that you would want. I'd lean toward the '03 Track.

Some people post here with excellent deals on the Z. I researched for a couple of months and finally (!) found an '03 Touring with 18k miles that I negotiated down to a hair over $18,000. It must have something to do with location.

There are no differences as far as comforts are concerned. Neither car has leather, they both have A/C and power windows (like all Z's do), neither car has the BOSE stereo, unless it was added. The interior of the 06 is slightly changed, the placement of the hazard switched moved, and the shift boot is changed. WOW!

The differences have all been mentioned, and I would absolutely go with the Track Z.

You should just go find 06 Base owners, and ask them what they would do if this option was given to them before they bought their car.
