Found a 05 Yellow Z, but something seems fishy...
So im on the market to get a Z, and I came across a beautiful Ultra Yellow. Its an 05, just about to hit 29000 miles, but priced at just under 17k. Now I emailed the dealer, they said the title was clean, and they don't deal with salvaged cars. What other problems could the car have? They said maintenance was done at the dealer, have records, excellent interior and exterior. In the case that it is a base version, would it be worth getting it? Can the LSD be installed after?
Whats your takes on the car?

If you were an east coaster I would check it out, but I'm too lazy for anywhere else. :-P Plus 25k is a little much right now for me anyway. Thats why this 17g caught my eye, but im very skeptical..

Yes, you can add a LSD later on, not a big deal. I would run a carfax on it to be sure of the history. When you go, take someone (preferably a mechanic) you can trust and have them look the car over. If everything comes back fine, go through with it. Because its an 05, there should still be part of the original warranty left over.

Yeah all I have right now is the dealers "word". Not sure how much that means. Seems like a great price, but then again, who knows. Its in NY so the suspension might be shot down the crap hole.

an 05 with 29k miles for $17k at a dealer?
Could be a misprint or they're not telling you something. It may be a scam just to get you in the dealership and suddenly "Oh we're sorry we made a mistake on the advertised price."
Although Infinity dealerships are reputed to be good.

+1 it could be this scenario or the old bait and switch. By the time you get there they'll say they sold it. If there is truly a Z for that price then you need to have it inspected by another dealership and not the Infiniti that's selling it. Reason for that is many times the mechanic will write what is wrong with the car but the saleman will intercept the report and omit certain information to the customer. Also fun a carfax. No dealership is stupid nor are they in the business of giving cars away. I've seen dealerships sell many wrecked cars and knowingly lied about it to the customer about the history of the car. Be careful and proceed with extreme caution. This could be the best deal or headache you are looking to purchase.

drive it....hard. they want to sell the car, so they wont say anything to you when you drop into 2nd and you hear that 'chirp' that the Zs and muscle cars are known for.
get to negotiating...get the price where you want it since its already at 17k, you could possibly get it down even more...let them know what ballfield you're playing on, and that you're serious, and they wont try to screw you. they get paid to get as much as they can from you.
rub all of the edges and body with your fingers, look for roughness where it may not have been sanded down after a repaint due to a wreck (door trims, under hood on edges)
THEN i would say, okay, i wanna borrow this thing for a day to see how it runs. let them know you like the car, but make them think youre a real ballbreaker. if they wont do that, they id say screw em. theyre waiting for some jerk off to look it over once and buy it. even if 17k isnt a bad price, its still a lot of money.
i, honestly, can't see paying more than 20k for anything older than an 06 with 30k miles or more on it, so id say its a fair price. everyone else just may be letting themselves get ****ed. take into account that they just revised the 350z, which has made resale value on the older ones a LOT less.
when they do this, it usually means that the car will not be around much longer (allows the new years of a model to retain resale value right before the next gen is released...can anyone say 3.7 infiniti skyline?) PLUS its an infiniti dealership, so they wouldnt want to belittle the worth of the haughty "infiniti" by jacking up the price on a nissan (nissans are better cars anyway; infinitis are detuned nissans with bells and whistles. may as well hire a pilot an buy a jet if you want your car to drive for you...)
wow, got really off topic.
so in short,
get the price down even more if you can
drive the car for a day
and then make your decision.
when it comes to money, one should NEVER act compusively. been looking for the right 02-03 maxima for 5 months. haven't found it. starting to change my mind, tho...could spend and extra 5k and afford a 350z these days.

In Manhattan. I emailed the salesman quite a few times. Said the car has a clean history, records have been kept, maintenance done at dealers, said the car was checked out by their certified mechanics and passed all inspections. I told him I want all these questions answered before I took a venture down there. Anything else I should ask?

look at the price dealerships and private sellers sell these cars at. a private dealer will start at 20k, and probably work down to 18k, mayb 17k for 19k miles.
a dealership will start anywhere from 23k to 25k just because they know theres a possibility that a) you'll be stupid and not negotiate, b) youll negotiate, but you'll just be happy with the price you've worked them down to, or c) youll negotiate, make the guy "ask his manager", he'll sweat, the manager will come out and then its REALLY show time, lol
things like autotrader are really hurting the maket because everyone is scouting out prices from eachother and they keep matching eachother at higher prices. so instead of a dealership seeing "oh, that guys selling his for 23k, well sell ours for 21k" they're saying "oh, hes asking that much, too. so we wont have to lower the price because we're asking a fair price"
you can always take the car to another lot and tell them what the other dealership is offering...then you can see if this other lot is willing to match that deal on something you can trust? i dunno...they may just say "well, we can't beat that price, sir" because they already filed their paperwork for the selling price. you never know. this is YOUR HARD-EARNED MONEY!!!
i was working on getting a 2001 maxima se 5-speed down to a decent price. it had 50k on it, but it had been wrecked and "frame damage" had been reported on the carfax report. couldnt get the guys to go down on the price....
5 months later the car is now on their used lot, still unsold and 5k less than their original asking price. id go get it right now if they had been truthful and answered my questions correctly.
i says "well 12k isnt badf for 50k miles, but i see that the car has frame damage on this report"
dealer says "oh, well, ill have my mechanics check it out right away."
i said "well, it says 'ceritified' on the big windshield sticker. it has reported frame damage and you havent checked it?"
dealer says "our mechanics looked at it and said its ok"
i said "did you check underneath all of the upholstery where all of the frame points meet at the top of the car?"
dealer says "ill have my mechanics check this out right away. thank you for pointing this out"
never heard from them again....car still hasnt sold.
lol, i wheel-hopped that ***** real good on my test drive, though. lol. knocked a bracket off of the muffler. wasnt real happy about that....
