You must have done this recently because my legs were sore yesterday.

 

Drove from Seattle to San Fransico, though I took it slow. Cruise control is a must. Overall the Z is pretty comfortable. yes it hurts your back, but sitting in anything for 8 hours will do that. It does have a somewhat stiff ride but nothing you shouldn't be able to deal with. The worst part is the tire roar. Z's are loud, especially on rough pavement, and the stereo sucks. I'd give the Z a 4 out of 10 as a roadtrip car. I'd take it over just about any econobox, but it's by no means luxurious.

 

The RSX posts stop being funny weeks ago. Outside of the Lounge, posts about the RSX are off-topic and certainly useless in the context of this thread's subject.

NYC to miami, FL....wasnt so bad.. 20+ hrs.. went none stop.. well except for pee and gas breaks... z did superb!

 

the Z's leg room and comfort is pretty good... i haven't taken any trips of that size but I haven't had any problems w/ my roadtrips.

 

Road trips:

1) Bought the car, drove from Miami, FL to northern NJ. (~1300 miles)
2) Drove it from northern NJ to Tampa, FL and back. (~3000 miles)
3) Drove it from northern NJ to St. Louis, MO and back. (~1500 miles)
4) Drove it from northern NJ to Niagara Falls and back. (~1200 miles)
5) Drove it from northern NJ to near Atlanta, GA and back. (~2500 miles)

Z has always been pretty comfortable. Keep your mph at 75mph or below and use the cruise and you'll see almost 30mpg and 500+ miles/tank easy. You'll obviously have to stop every once in awhile, but I think its rather comfortable. Bring snacks and bottles of juice or water and plenty of music and enjoy the ride.

 

The longest trip I have done mileage wise, was around 360 miles. That included some strait line, boring highway driving, and about 100 miles of twists and turns and fun. After it was all said and done my back was a little sore, but nothing too bad. I was more tired than anything else. 100 miles of aggressive driving REALLY wears out you. Props to those NASCAR drivers, and their driving requires a slight bit more concentration lol.

It is going to New Hampshire on my summer vacation this year. I could care less if it takes 3 hours, I am driving all the way around Lake Winnipasaukee.

 

I find the Z to be extremely comfotable. I have a freind with a WRX and he drove my car and said it was the most comfortable car he's ever sat in.

 

ive driven from okc to luckenbach texas and it was about 7.5 hours one way thats the longest for me so far in the z i loved it drove strait through pulled over to get bottle of water and gas twice, that helped me wake up and stretch my legs. I put my cruise on about 80 and scoot my seat back further then i do when i drive so i can stretch out and just drive with my fingers on the cruise. All in all i wouldnt ever have a problem driving it further then that. 1900 i would love to have the time and money to see 1900 miles of countryside.

 

Have regularly driven 500+ miles in my Z, and have never had any issues. Very happy with mileage, very happy with comfort, not happy about having to keep it at 83 MPH to avoid attracting more attention. Set cruise to 83 and forget about it, slip your feet under the brake pedal to strech out a bit, and enjoy the trip.

BTW, at 6'4" and further north of 300 lbs than I would ever like to admit, you will probably not find a bigger guy in a Z on a daily basis. I have never been uncomfortable in it. I know it's time for a haircut when my I can feel the headliner touching the hair on the top of my head

 

I drove from Ogden, UT to Topeka, KS -- leaving 9:00 AM and getting in about 3:00 AM, with only gas stops.

I was tired, but not sore. I think that the Konis really helped.

 

I did 3600km twice (i dont know how many miles that is - check on google earth anyways) from Adelaide to Cairns, and Cairns back to Adelaide last year. It was fine. Acutally google maps shows the shortcut. I went through Sydney and Brisbane.

Do a search on 'trips' or 'traveling' and you will come up with the info on packing and equipment. There was a great thread on it last week. It seems like more and more of us are using the Z on road trips and picking favorite highways to hit when going cross country.

Running 9 over the speed limit is pretty safe on open freeway and cruise control is really nice. States vary on strictness. A ticket will sour your trip. Then expect over 26 mpg and safely over 475 miles per tank. Depending on your shape the seats can be very comfortable, but switching positions or drivers always will extend the amount of hours of comfort on long hauls.

Best quick advice on trips is:
- get a Rubbermaid "slim" 12 can cooler that fits in front of the rear strut and is accessible from cockpit,
- use stuff sacks and gym-type bags instead of suitcases,
- use the spare tire wheel-well for tools and emergency gear storage.
-put a limit on the amount of shoes your gf can take.

 

500+ miles per tankful isn't reallly a problem in sixth gear. I run mine at 77mph all day long. If you take a break and stretch a little at each gas stop you'll be fine. I have done over 1000 miles a day without any ill effects. I did recently buy a massager with a built in heat and lumbar support at Walmart for under $20 at Christmas. It's even nicer now. I have a Base and haven't ever really used cruise control that much.

I do have to say my cushy Sable rides better and get almost as good mileage. However, when I get to my destination I always wish I had driven the Z each time that I didn't take it.

 

I go on road trips with my girl all the time, and she happens to love it. Just be sure to dim the cluster lights when she's taking a nap (something little she'll grow to appreciate). Have fun!

 

Pretty good car for road trips. My Z has been on quite a few road trips, but not for a long time. Usually get about 760-800kms on the open road, not driving slowly, in comparison city driving.

You can get a decent amount of baggage in the boot. But I would suggest if you don't have tinted windows take a blanket to put over the gear, so the baddies can't see what's in the back.

 

Car Covers are optional as well. They double to protect your valuables from prying eyes and you can slip them over the car at rest stop to cool you for a quick nap. I like to take naps at lunchtime in my Z. I can't get enough of that car.
