Default VDC tried to kill me!

I've never been a huge fan of electronic gizmos in control of my car, but forget to turn it off sometimes, anyways I was doing a bit of spirited driving (probably 8/10's) on a twisty road. I was doing about 80 mph on a dry road. I braked before an oncoming corner, rode the long and tight sweeper, when about half way through my rear brakes locked up, and the fuel was cut. (you know... what you DON'T want in a corner). My rear starts to fly out, and I had to do some serious quick steering manuevers to get that biatch straightened up. The Slip lighht was on throughout, then turned off. I checked the road... there was nothing on it. I got back in, scared shiatless, and continued on (with VDC off). I haven't had problems sice... but what the hell happened???

ABS doesn't allow brakes to lock up. Sounds more like pilot error.

Oil spot maybe, sounds like the VDC may have actually saved you

No way, no pilot error and no oil spot. And the brakes didn't lock up, but it was like I had slammed the brakes. Buddy was behind me on his bike, and we both had no idea what went wrong.

Yes, because pilot error consists of slamming the brakes when I wasn't even touching the brakes. Right.

the electronics can use your brakes.

I've only had good experiences with VDC on. There have been a few occasions where I know it quite possibly saved my ****. When I want to do a little spirited driving I take VDC off and have at it.

abs does not come on only when you "slam the brakes" that is the beauty of a full time abs. you also have speed sensors that will cut power as well if the car even "feels" like it is going to lose traction, you had the VDC on, this is what happened. i find our brakes stock are a bit touchy at times and if you apply even a bit too hard of brake pressure, those suckers will stop. so no one accused you of "slamming" the brakes, so that leaves pilot error then.

I should have turned it off, but just filled up and forgot.

When things like this happen, they happen so quickly, chances are you don't know if the front or rear brakes were applied, if or how much the throttle was cut, etc. Throw in the fact that you're trying to correct the manuver - there's a lot going on in less than 1 second, maybe 2. I don't doubt that you got a scare, I doubt that VDC was to blame. I'd put my money on "it saved you", not "killed you".

And the brakes come on when VDC senses slippage. I brake before corners, not during.

well, you'd lose your money then. And yes, I know exactly what happened. I wasn't "scared". The fact of the matter is, I wasn't going too fast, there was nothing slippery on the road, I didn't "need" VDC, and I certainly didn't brake in the middle of what should have been an easy corner. I've had the car 3 years, driven it hard on the track and off... and this is the first this has happened.

VDC can apply the brakes for you - but the ABS functionality is still in effect so it won't lock them up. The two times I have VDC kick in, you hear a brief grinding sound (ABS pumping the brakes).

That would freak me out, I'm glad that all I have is TCS, all it does it cut throttle.

yes. and forgive the "lock up" comment, but it was as if I slammed them hard.

I have locked up the brakes before with ABS on. but I think there was some dust or sand or something possibly.

I have base though, so no VDC trickery...
