I don’t get the 350Z and fear of rain. I have driven HPDE in the rain. Above is a 100MPH straight-a-way. The 350Z does fine throughout the entire course.

Damn dude that just blows. Thats a big fear of mine in the Z. Unless I have great treads on the tire and I mean great.

At least you and the wife are good.

Here's a link that'll show you how overall bad these tires are in every condition. CLICK ME for more info. Well sorry to break it to you but your tires were one of the weak points that contributed to your accident. One of the first reviews explain a similar situation that unfortunately lead to your accident.
+1 on the tires. I've never had problems with my '05 base even in the worst rain... until I got to the point this year where I had worn down stock potenzas on the front and my Eagle F1 GS-D3's on the back had got down to the wear bars. I was driving home one night with my wife and the damn thing started twitching and pulling like it was slithering through the standing water on the highway. I had to slow down to 40mph a few times becuase it was feeling like I was on ice. It seems like most people that have problems on this site do not realize how smooth you need to drive. I am starting to believe the rest of us that have problems, the tires are a big culprit. I also am now a firm believer that the front and rear tires must be matched if you expect them to work right when the weather gets bad. I am SO glad I've got 4 brand new GS-D3's now.
And maybe have to rethink the old habit I've had of wearing a tire down until it's almost smooth. Can't rotate tires on the Z so if the rears wear down significanlty more than the fronts you are asking for trouble becuase the rear will break traction first if there is a huge difference in tread depth front to rear. Once you loose traction on a RWD you pretty much just have to pray that the car won't end up spinning off the road whatever way it wants to go. Loosing traction in the front is correctable if you don't panic. I found some pretty good info on tire traction recently. I had been trying to research having different tires front/rear because I hate my current winter setup. Discount allowed me to get different tires front/back and it doesn't seem to stable to me. They said I would be fine and I don't think I am. I may just buy new fronts this winter to match the rears to ease my mind.
Glad you are both OK. Sounds like you are a pretty smooth driver. If you get another Z just pay attention to tires becuase the car can be pretty sensitive. If you've got good tires you should be OK even being a little careless.

Damn bro I just found out last night from Kev. I was wondering about you two b/c we usually see you on the weekends. Sorry to hear about your accident but im glad you guys are ok.

The Z doesn't look too bad, it def. could have been much worse. I had a wreak about 4 years ago on I-40 nearly killed me and destroyed my car, never play chicken with a Walmart Semi

If I where you I would go to a couple of different body shops and pick up some estimates for the repair, use the highest one and provide it to your adjuster. When he is looking at the Z make sure your there and point out as many things as you can no matter how small trust me it counts. I don't think it will be totaled but you should receive more then enough to get it fixed.

Most of the work can be done on your own given there is no frame damage and you could save a lot plus maybe upgrade your rims and new body kit. If you need anything let me know, I have some experience in the matter and will do what I can to help.

I'm sorry to hear about your Z. At least you and your wife are alright. I spun out in my Z a month or so ago during the rain. The part where you said the back end swung around reminds me of my spin. Hope things work out.

Ok, im his wife. I would be the one in the passenger seat. And trust me, with those tires on the back, it is easy for the back end to come loose. Plus, there was standing water in the road. When i jumped out of the car in the middle of I-40, i stepped into water that came up almost to my ankle. No lie, cause i lost my shoe in it.

i agree.. the only problem with that is, we are in fayetteville now, and the car is in durham. the adjuster is suppose to look at the car today or tomorrow. All we have right now is my car, and we're not sure mine will make it to durham without breaking down. In fact the adjuster called today, but she wouldnt tell me anything, which is messed up cause my name is on everything too. oh well. but we should find out soon.

Oh and i went to express care last night to get checked out. We just have some pulled muscles in our necks and shoulders, and i strained my stomache where i had surgery a month ago, so i gotta follow up with that. But we are so lucky we walked away from that one, like a lot of people said, it could have been a lot worse.

sounds like you changed lanes a little too fast, probably pissed about the other cars sprary and instinctively changed lanes as you would on dry pavement. Sucks, glad your OK though. I drive in the rain like I'm on ice, everything in slow motion...

on a 65 mph highway that is very very straight when you are almost getting hit, because you doing way under the speed of traffic it is.

I think there's a difference between wet roads in your pics versus what the encountered, which was standing water.

yeah those are the exact tires. I really wish I would have paid more attention before hand to what was on there. the shock still hasn't warn off. I still just can't believe this is happening.

Two separate incidents caused me to slap some Kumho all weather tires on and replace the stock OEM Craptenzas. If you decide to keep this car or get an '07 I'd recommend you do the same. Good luck with this...

Sorry to hear about your wreck. Anytime I see a wrecked Z on the highway, I get a sick feeling in my stomach. I remember how much I freaked out when the service guy put a scratch on the threshold of my door. I can't imagine what you're going through.

How long did you have the car before this wreck?

for all of you guys who have posted, good or bad; thank you you guys. you don't know how much you've helped me my by just taking my mind off even if for just a few moments at a time.

Luis, Kevin, Tami, and derek. thanks for all the help you guys have given us along the way. I really wish this didn't happen, and that we could go to the 23rd meet with you guys, but I'm just thankful that were okay.

again I really want to thank you all for all your words of encouragement. this has been one of the hardest weeks I can remember since I've been home from Afghanistan. it would have been alot harder to get through it this far if it were for all of your support.

also the insurance adjuster just called and he is not sure whether the drive train is damaged yet or not until they can move it to a shop to take it apart. but if so it will most likely be totaled. I'll try to keep everyone informed.

again thanks everybody for all the support.
