me and brittney (my wife) went to go see the car yesterday (monday) for the first time since the accident. it looked bad but I guess it's not too too horrible. they said that they are basically gonna have to take most of the whole rear end of the car (minus the left quarter which wasn't damaged) off and replace it, and depending on how quickly the parts come in it could be done in as little as two weeks. the guys that operated the shop seemed very proffessional as well as knowledgable and I have confidence that they will repair it correctly.

after talking with the repair shop and several sources through out nissan north american, and the body shop as well as some others who have asked not to be mentioned; I realized that the pro-rating of the muffler was uncalled for on this age/condition/type of vehicle. after doing some research I called the insurance claims adjuster and talked with both him and his manager about the pro-rating of the exhaust and they both agreed to pay for the entire cost of the muffler.

the insurance company wanted to replace the passenger side rear tire with exactly what we had on there to start with and which we believe was a very large contributing factor to the accident so we went ahead and ordered a complete set of eagle F1 DS G3's to insure that we won't have this same hydroplanning problem again.

so atleast now we are getting back on track and we're headed in the right direction. again thank you guys for the help and support.
Glad everything is working out for you guys. Post up some pics when she is whole again.

Just FYI, If they chop off the rear and attach a new one, it's going to affect your resale value significantly, regardless of how well they do it. My car took a hit in the rear corner, and it lowered my resale value by 4k. Just something to keep in mind.

Insurance can fix or replace a car...
Insurance cannot fix or replace a deceased loved one...
Just glad to hear that you guys are okay.

As for the car... If insurance will fix it, start looking at some bod kits, rims, lights, exhaust, and maybe add a new wing while you're at it.

As for the young driver stuff. It's all BS i think.
I'm 18. My Z is my second car after owning a 2000 Celica GTS. I am paying every penny of it. I have 0 accidents and 0 points on my record. I believe accidents are the individual's problem, not a stereotype of "young drivers". Because I believe "old drivers" seem to cause a lot more accidents, anger, and frustration on the highways. Just my .02

thats a given, but seeing as how I'm a bit upside down, if I had it totaled then I would have no way of putting a down payment on a new z. so at this point it doesn't look like I have many other options.

but thanks for the help.

Way to come through and help a fellow Zer out. Nathan give him a call this could help save you guys some more money(and there is nothing wrong with you supplying the body shop with these parts, hell they could even order them and have them shipped there).

I deffinately will let you know if we need anything. right now it looks like the insurance is back on track for now but I really really appreciate the offer. it's very comforting to know that there are people still willing to help people they don't even know like this. thanks man.

I will deffinately keep everyone posted. I will be sure to post up pictures of the car when we get it back from the body shop. they seemed very confident that they can restore it to the point that you would never know it was in an accident. I really hope so.

thanks to everyone for all the support.

ohh yeah that reminds me; so I call the body shop that the car is at to ask if the tires we ordered for the car have come in yet, and the manager tells me that they have. he also told me that the insurance adjuster who did the estimate on the car and his boss came down yesterday. the same insurance adjuster that tried to have the shop put aftermarket parts on the car, and tried to make me pay for part of the exhaust. well the adjuster and his boss asked the manager of the shop "how much will it cost to have the floor pulled straight, rather than replaced?". the manager of the shop told me he said "nothing because we're not going to do it half assed, we're gonna replace it, like it should be". well I guess the adjuster and his boss walked off and went over to talk to the mechanic that is actually working on the car. the adjuster tried to ask the mechanic behind the managers back "so how long will it take to just straighten out the floor panel?". the manager said he over heard him ask this and told the adjuster "what part of, we're not gonna replace it, not straighten it out don't you understand?" after the adjuster finally agreed that they would replace it, the body shop manager more or less ran them out of his shop.

the body shop is the micheal jordan body shop out of Chapel hill/Durham, and they have been nothing but straight forward with us and very helpful, and so far I highly recommend them for anyone who finds themselves in this situation.

geico on the other hand has done nothing but attempt to screw us, half *** everything, and go the cheap route. I am deffinately gonna go with someone else for sure, even if it costs me more.

hopefully it will all turn out alright.

I'll back you up. 1 year ago I was going 60 in light rain and my 350 did a 180 into a ditch. I have an 03 touring model. You don't have to be f**ing around to get into trouble. Thank you for your service.
