There will be miles on the clock for sure, but 14 miles is excessive no matter how you look at it. Other than the car being driven after it was delivered to the dealer, I don't see how that many miles could have racked up. Yeah, it probably wasn't test driven by a customer, but the car being driven by someone at the dealership is a high probability.

Not sure how Nissan does things, but I've ordered a few BMWs and the most miles on the odometer was 7 miles. I remember making a thread about this subject on another forum and everyone was pretty much well under 10 miles. If they exceeded that number, then it was agreed upon that someone logged those miles after it was delivered.

The cars have to be driven to a detail shop unless the dealer has one on site. By detail i mean taking off the protective coating and stickers on the car and waxing it. They do the same thing with Porsches.

I remember when I was shopping around for the lowest mileage Z out there. One I test drove had over 200 miles on it.....YIKES, I enjoyed the drive while it lasted, but boy did that change my mind about that particular car.

Two months after purchasing my brand new Z, I've got only 96 miles on it. Trying to be careful when driving it because I'm saving up for a clear braw

Mountain runs for varying speed and power. Keep it under 5K for the first 1200miles and then build up the rpms over the next 500-600 miles. I changed the oil after 1000 miles and got out the fine metal filings as well. I put in dino oil for the next 4K miles. Then I changed it to syn.

Mine doesn't burn oil ... My last VQ went 220K without burning oil or any problems at all and it was a turbo car. Just use syn and change your oil in a turbo car every 3K and 5K in a N/A after 5K miles of break in. If you use syn before that the rings might not seal as well.

That's my opinion

IMO the breakin period is more for clutch break in. At least thats the only reason I would keep from beating too hard.
As stated before, the rings are seated pretty good from the first 20 mins of driving.
Bring the revs up a few times and let the engine brng them back down and she should be good.
Clutches on the other hand should be treated with a little more respect with no miles on them.
LIke I said, I have tried both ways and I ALWAYS yield powerful set ups. I have a hard time believing every car I get has a freak motor.
It is what it is. Just use common sense.

With that being said, my 07 is a little under 1100 now. I will tell you I have went over 4k plenty of times. I prob havent taken over 5k though. I let it bring the revs down by the motor cuz that is my driving style. I prob took it over 5k once or twice on the test drive, but there is no doubt in my mind the motor is more then fine.
My wife prob beats on it bad when im not with her.

I think 5K is the most that i'll rev it to before 1200. i'm also planning on full synthetic change at 1200 as well.

That's true. I used to write manuals for machines I designed at a small company. Basically, there was little info, and plenty of lawyer influence.

Written by engineers, edited by attorneys.

This is true, think about it, even if the manufacturer knew driving hard early was the best way to go, there is no car manufacturer in the world (nor any law firm representing a car manufacturer) willing to print in a manual, "Drive it hard and fast as quickly as you can." So what do they do? Tell you to take it easy, because while it may not be the best way, it's not going to cause major problems until after warranty is up and no one is going to kill anyone driving around like an idiot.

I broke in my 2004 R6 specifically off of that website linked above, not only did I not have any problems, I had a VERY strong bike. My buddy, who bought a Kawi ZX6-r literally the same week I got mine broke his in according to the manual. The Kawi was a bigger, more powerful bike but yet was slower after about 5k miles than mine.

Oh, and hello everyone, 1st post. I'm one of those who will be registered for a while before getting a Z. I'm here to learn first. Great forums BTW.

Welcome, motorcycle motors are different than car motors. Revving it hard is great for a motorcycle when its brand new i just don't think its the same for a car.

Dont do it. You will regret it
I believe that is part of the reason my cars are always freaks. I never run synth. That crap is a myth.
When I had a Type R, I swear I was the only one not running synth. I also made alot more power then them and didnt burn a drop of oil like they did. Same thing with my Supra.

Lol you rebel, 5k eh, its a well built machine, yea it needs to be broken it but its not going to kill the engine to have it a quick go here and there, and lots of car companies advise brieft WOT bursts.

Breaking a car in hard seems all too tempting. A brand new Z. The first thing I'd wanna do is punch it hard and feel what's really under the hood.

What, no sense of foreplay?
