Default Aftermarket parts insured???

Do you guys contact your insurance company after putting on aftermarket parts? Things like rims, exhaust, suspension, etc. Would the premium go up? Would they pay you for the parts if it was damaged let's say in an accident (*knock on wood*)? Apologies if this is a repost or in the wrong section.

It depends on the insurance company, your coverage and the items involved. Call your agent to get the definitive answer.

I have Mercury too, did you have to go to your insurance agent? Or contact them directly?

I would think you would need to talk to your agent since they may be the only authorized ones to make changes to your policy. Definitely sounds like a smart move though.

I had a guy come out and inspect my car. They also wanted me to fax the receipts to them. My Volks cost $60ish bucks a year to insure.

Ah...the thing is I bought my Volks from a member on here, no receipt...I will see if they can still insure it though...

I believe Mercury charges you 1% of the mod's value. i.e. if your wheels are worth 3K, you would have to pay 30bucks a month to insure it.

I called State Farm after I got my Volks on. Doesn't cost me anything extra, they only wanted a copy of the receipts to prove ownership.

$30 per policy renewal period - i.e. $60/year.

+1

They cover everything on my car at no additional cost.

I used to adjust claims for mercury and you will need the items to be specifically listed for coverage (exclusion 'h' if I recall correctly of your comprehensive portion). if you do not, they will pay for the cost of replacing oem parts. as noted, it is pretty inexpensive coverage for something that is pretty likely to be stolen (rims especially). In the two years I handled stolen cars, almost everyone had custom wheels and/or other mods.
