I'm holding a cashier's check for almost $30k...

And you know what ? I feel like ****. I went through so much with this car, it feels like losing a lifelong pet or a family member.
I sold it because I basically live on campus now, and it used to sit in the garage 6 out of 7 days a week, collecting dust while I paid insurance. And I won't be done with grad school for at least another year or more. Plus maintenance on these cars is a ***** once you modify them.
But I will need a way to get around in the summer, and I was planning on getting a healthy Yamaha R6 or a GSXer. That's the only way the sale of the Z won't feel like a downgrade, because every other car in the price range would feel like a big step down.
But now my buddies are trying to talk me out of a bike, stating death and paralysis and all that, and I began to contemplate a beater for around $3-4k. Then I realized that, even with beaters, like an older Miata, I'd be tempted to throw a supercharger on it.
What do you guys think ? Should the replacement be a sportbike, or beater, or both?

No, not a bike. Repeat your first post, especially the "death and paralysis" part.
A bike is fine if it's for fun. Not if it's your one and only means of transportation. Get a car that's completely different from the Z, so you don't feel sports car comparisons (which of course a beater would make you feel like a step down).
Maybe a Subaru Forester? Toyota Prius? Honda Civic? Something reasonably practical for grad school that would also get you moved to your first job afterwards.
Then plan to buy yourself another Z. ;-)

Thanks for all the love guys ![Big Grin](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
You're cheering me up a little.
Yes, I live off Wilshire, and I cruise around Westwood/UCLA every now and then, so it's no surprise if you see me around. I still have it for a few more weeks, so if anyone wants to go on a Z cruise, lemme know :]
And yeah I bought the Z when it just came out, so it wouldn't surprise me if I was one of the first 100 or 1000 members of my350z.

Also think about those times when you might want to go for a drive with your buddies, bad weather, general practicality.
